Hi, This is Sharifa!

Moment of silence in memorial for the Visitor Memorial...

NBCi, the... *inconvenience* (to be nice) it's been to me over the last year, ever since they bought out Xoom, has struck the final blow. The Visitor Memorial and Episode Archives will be no more after this weekend. (So if you want to save anything, get it now!!)

But perhaps they will be resurrected some day as an expanded section of Centropoholics.com. Any volunteers to help reformat the content (or do more screen caps & sounds) for the site are welcome and appreciated!!

Love,
Sharifa

P.S. My opinion is that yes, Adam could fall in love again. But I don't think he's looking for love. The theoretical ladylove would probably be from the Colony.

Sharifa, I don't get it? Why is NBCi shutting down your pages? Please, PLEASE download your site so we *can* move it later if necessary. It's a lot easier to grab all the material via FTP than saving each page one at a time.

[Fungus, please make sure she gets this message, ukay?]

Pat...NBCi is closing. Everyone and anyone on them is gettin shut down. Including our old JC sites.

GET OUT!!!! Really?

Well let's get Sharifa's site back up on a Geocities host or something. There's got to be other freebee sites out there we can move it to, y'know? It can't be *that* big either. Is there room at Centropoholics.com?

We don't have any limite at holics.com as far as I know. And Pat....the other freebies hosts out there are slowly shutting down or beginning to charge for their services. It's only a matter of time.

Well, then this *should* be a no-brainer.

YO, Fungus, what say you? Just toss it up under a backdoor URL or something; we'll worry about getting it indexed with the search engines later, ya know?

Yeesh... you people don't give me any credit. :]

Sharifa and I already discussed the matter :] We're going to try to work it into the holics site, or at the very least, make it an 'add on'.

Please don't ever mention Geocities again dear, (they're owned by PeeYoo, and you know how I feel about them).

Also, I really hope we don't have a site limit with holics.com, because the next update will range somewheres in the 100+ meg marker!!!

Sharifa wrote yesterday afternoon:
> The Visitor Memorial and Episode Archives will
> be no more after this weekend. (So if you want
> to save anything, get it now!!)

Is it any wonder we kinda jumped on this Fungus? If you and Sharifa had already discussed it, then why the alarming post? ;o)

I'm listening and concerned about the potential loss of Sharifa's site, too. It's a great resource for Visitor fans. I like to use the backdoor links to the web show and to read the synopses when there's a detail I want without going back to the VCR.

At any rate, after I read this:

Any volunteers to help reformat the content (or do more screen caps & sounds) for the site are welcome and appreciated!!

I stopped short (being shamefully illiterate where web publishing is concerned). So how much down time do you think the site would have, Fungus and Sharifa, if for example it could be moved to Centropoholics.com?

Technically, there doesn't have to be *any* downtime. Create a sub-directory and upload to it. If the site's links were all created relative to each other, then there shouldn't be too much to fix. A root directory, here and there, yes? Am I oversimplifying it? I've had to move my site three times already. The biggest pain in the arse is waiting for it to upload (about 2 1/2 hours!)

But Fungus supposedly has this under control, so let's not worry about it guys. He can handle this project with half a mouse button. ;o)

Wow what support, friends! Thanks. Sharifa again (havent't gotten me own profile here yet). Well, I didn't mean to be alarming, just announcing. I asked people to DL their own stuff they want to save cuz it would be easier for me than sending anyone stuff they might want/need.

But you'd probably not be able to get into the site anyway, since seems like everyone and their cousin is accessing the NBCi sites right now, to download while the getting's good.

I did have 2/3 of a day of trouble getting in, but I did manage to DL my whole site(s)-- 275 files. I didn't have it on my HD already because we lost it all on one of the many HD failures in our compu-history. (I no longer have the old message archive either, so I hope others do...)

It's true that an as-is upload could be done ASAP, with a backdoor URL, for now, with integration into Centropoholics.com website coming later. The apricot color scheme (of my sites) has been bugging me for a while now (these were my first websites and I knew nothing 3.25 years ago!), so I'm looking forward to a cooler color scheme.

I wasn't thinking of going to another freebee server, mostly because I didn't realize that the sites would be all that missed. (It's true I didn't think of doing the as-is back door thing either, just a future integration.) But since there does seem to be such a demand, I'll try to upload to Centropoholics' server this week.

An integration tho, would be an excellent excuse to expand the thing with more sound and pictures tho! Some of the synopses have neither. (Hint, Hint, Nudge, Nudge to any volunteers. :-) )

Love,
Sharifa

Hi, me. The Fungal One.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Pat :]

Sharifa and I had discussed it, before she was having all that trouble d/ling the stuff, which is why she posted what she did.

I will probably be able to backdoor the site by midweek (it's on the other computer, and we can't network them, so we'll have to set up an ftp on the other puter, and I'm finishing up a paying site now, so I'll be busy for at least another day).

Yes, we hope to integrate her site into Holics.com eventually, but we'll leave the backdoor up too (at least temporarily).

Any and all volunteers for any and all things on the 'holics site are welcome :]

The biggest problem, as Pat pointed out (and Sharifa kinda 'seconded') is the link status. I *think* the links are made out to 'http://' so they are site specific, rather than hierarchal.

Soo.... fixing that right now would be up to Sharifa. it WOULD help for transitioning it to 'holics.com. Again though, she uses Nutscrape Composer for editing, and you know how those wussywig editors can f*** up a page... I'm almost afraid to tackle it. So... the integration might not be for at least a couple of upgrades, but like I said, the backdoor should be up shortly...

Fungus

I have a look at some of the links and they don't appear to be site specific [e.g. "quotes.html"] but I can't voich for them all!

I also discovered that if you use the URL, it removes the NBCi bar on top

http://members.nbci.com/_XMCM/thevisitor/index.html

Oops, do they also have grammer classes at the Centropolis Summer School of Electric Education? Drat the lack of an "edit" button!
