I would have posted this yesterday, but "Louie, Louie" was nowhere to be found. LOL

I got an awesome care package in the mail yesterday morning and wanted to tell you folks about it. John Corbett sent me his personal copies of taped episodes from his latest project this year, "Sex and the City." He included 14 of his scripts, his invitation to the premiere party for the show, and a Polaroid of him on which he wrote "Pat, heart John." The photo can be seen here, bottom of the page.

I guess it was his way of saying thank you for this season, I dunno. (I had organized a campaign last year to keep his character on the show - and it WORKED! Fox Plant Chris came up with the campaign slogan and we were off and running.) But, whatever the reason for his generosity, it's an amazing gift and I was overjoyed. He sure knows how to nail someone when they least expect it! ;o)

Anyhoo, if you're out there dood, one big hug backatcha! You're a nut - but you're also a very special person. Thanks a million!

Um, what's with the slicked back look?

btw, I really hate to say this, especially in light of your blessing, but I have been under the impression for some time now that John Corbett really didn't care for the Visitor, and would rather NOT be remembered for it...

I mean, when the crusade was out to revive his OWN STARRING VEHICLE he wanted no part of it, nor would he give the time of day to those most responsible. I've yet to see a post Vis interview that makes any kind of serious mention of the Visitor, plus, when you did this crusade for SATC, THEN he graciously acknowledges your dedication.

I'm happy for ya, Pat, honestly, but IMHO, if we were to somehow get the Vis off the ground again, I have a feeling the one person who wouldn't be interested is the Visitor himself...

What part? Mo, are you seriously asking me if I was truly happy about receiving those items from, of ALL people, John Corbett? That part. You **ARE** joking, right? Did my first post not sound "happy" enough? Is "overjoyed" not a strong enough word? LOL

For the record, I was F***'N FLOORED and in total SHOCK for the better part of the day.

I'm trying not to gush here. It's embarrassing. But goddamn... YES!!! I was VERY happy!

Fungus, I respectfully disagree. In most cases, actors don't lobby to have their shows brought back from cancellation. What they do is a job at its most basic. If you're laid off from your job, you move on to another job, simple as that. JC moved on to other jobs.

If he's remembered for anything, it'll probably be NX. He's said in interviews he'll likely take that character to his grave. But that doesn't mean he wants to forget that character, or any other for that matter. He just doesn't discuss old roles all that much, a fact which was confirmed to me personally when I spoke with his manager last year. What's the point? If you're a person who lives for the moment, which he is, then something that occurred four years ago is pretty much ancient history. As I noted above, it's a job, and actors move on with new roles. But when he *was* doing The Visitor, he took playing the character very seriously and was quite outspoken about how much he believed in the show. Of all the articles and interviews I've read - when it comes to JC, I've pretty much read 'em ALL! - I truly believe The Visitor was his favorite character to play because he believed in the message that much.

Regarding SATC, he was only hired to do 10 episodes last year and that was it. It was understood that his "good guy" character would be "hurt" by the lead character and he would therefore break up with her at the end. That was it. Buh bye; it's been nice knowin' ya. There was never any intention or desire on the part of the producers or writers to have the character come back this year. But the fans dictated otherwise. His invite to reprise the character this season probably came as much of a surprise to him as it did to the writers who were told by HBO execs to write him back into the scripts.

Bringing The Visitor back is quite a different story, however. After four years, I can't see it happening, especially with *any* of the actors from the original series, not just JC. They've all moved on, and getting everybody together again with open schedules would likely be extremely difficult, if not impossible. Plus, the push for something like that should come from the originators of the show, not the actors, IMHO. What's Dean been doing about it? Probably nothing. I'm sure he's moved on as well. Only the fans dwell in the past.

Would JC play a character like Adam MacArthur again? In my very educated opinion, HELL YES! Look at his track record post The Visitor (and many characters pre The Visitor.) He has a penchant for playing heroes and/or sympathetic characters that, due to the circumstances they find themselves in, elicit pity from the audience and often direct identification through some personal experience. The man is all about empathy. He *becomes* the character first so people can believe him in the role, rather than just act out the facade. If he can't see himself as the character he's playing, he won't take the part. Of all the characters he "became," I believe being MacArthur held the most personal significance to him - on all levels.

As to the "slicked back look" in that picture, his hair is just really short. It was part of the request of the writers on SATC that he cut his hair before filming began this year. The bastards! LOL Here's the story if you're interested.

Phew! Sorry for the rant. I guess I'm a little outspoken on this topic meself. ;o)

And Fungus...there was SO much crappy red tape tied up around The Visitor...with Fox owning the rights and all....that it would've been difficult for *anyone* to bring it back, let alone one of the actors to it.

And in case you haven't noticed, he thanked Pat *after* the fact of having his job extended. He didn't do anything to lobby for it. An actor is pretty much at the mercy of those in charge.

Straight to the point:

I'm very happy that you're happy, Pat.

and...

I'm glad you finally got recognized "officially" for all that you have put into (and up with) for JC, in the fandom. Congrats, you deserve it.

If I need to explain my first response, it boils down to this:

You have worked your @$$ off, to 'enlighten' people about the virtues of that man, as an actor, and have been vigorously kicked in said @$$ far more than you deserved. It's wonderful that he acknowledged your contributions with regards to SATC, but I also wish he would have said at least a little "PS, thanks for your support on my previous endeavors too" kinda thing, as you deserve that just as much, if not moreso than the SATC thing...

I'm with Sheri!

It's about BLOODY TIME!!

And I have to disagree with the Fungal One. Dude, you know I love you but...

It chaps my hide when people hoist their individual expectations onto another person. Especially when it's an "entertainer" who they do not know. And I mean KNOW as in your friend or your neighbor or your spouse. Not someone you "know" from stories your read or tv bits you see. Shows you NOTHING of their thoughts, dreams or visions of the world tomorrow!

Rather like when people write letters - not because they honestly and sincerely want to send KUDOS but because they desperately want a letter in return. Then they get all bent when no letter arrives. Hoisting your expectations...

Yes - some actors get very very involved in their "celebrity." Some because they enjoy their fans and some because they're just control fiends. Does it mean that those who don't get involved don't care? No. It just means they're busy. They have a life. I would rather ANYONE move on to other projects than have a nervous breakdown over the failure.

Smoochies,
Lisa
