...he'd be a happy man!"

[necks snap forward and heads pop up]

Now that I have everybody's attention, lemme tell y'all a story. ;o)

The S.O. and I finally got a chance to use our X-mas gift from the in-laws tonight: a $200.00 gift certificate to "Best Buy" (a large discount electronic chain store), which we decided to spend on DVDs. He went his way, and I went mine. After stockpiling a bunch of Star Trek episodes, two recent releases, one classic film and two comedies under my already sore arm, I spotted Pay Dirt. I let out an audible yelp as I leaned over to more closely inspect a box, which appeared to be haphazardly tossed on the bottom shelf. My eyes glazed over as I saw the unmistakable artwork on the cover: a devil behind a motion picture camera. OMG!!!!!! It's out! It's out!! They released THE STUNT MAN on DVD!! Holy schitt!

For those of you who don't know, "The Stunt Man" is a film that was released in 1980, starring Steve Railsback ("Vise," from "The Visitor") and Peter O'Toole. I wouldn't know where to begin to describe it, but if you haven't seen it, run, don't walk, to your nearest video/dvd store and BUY it!!! I got the limited edition version, which includes a second DVD documentary outlining the background behind all the hijinks it took to get this movie produced and distributed - a ten year long endeavor. Bottom line: I can't recommend it enough!! The acting is superlative and the script is extraordinary. Overall, a masterpiece! And the "making-of" documentary was *extremely* interesting, from a film-buff (read: geek) POV. ;o)

Phew! Have I convinced anybody yet? Just DO it! BUY the DVD! Trust me on this one.

Have you seen it yet Will? Amazon.com has some reviews here. There's one or two sour grapes, but a large majority of viewers praise it. The "making-of" documentary is a must-see.

No haven't yet Agentpat, but soon. Did this have its beginnings as an Independent film??

Hmmm... I don't think so. They had "real" studio backing to *produce* the film, but because it couldn't be pigeonholed using some formulaic, two-word description ("action adventure," "love story," "social commentary," "comedy," etc.), Rush had an uphill battle with the distributors - and I mean a BATTLE! Take a peek at the viewer comments here:

http://us.imdb.com/Details?0238606

(Only two paragraphs; it's a quick read)
