I forgot to mention to Pat that our local paper a few days ago had a picture of John Corbett (He was kissing another actor in Big Fat Greek Wedding) ..and a little write-up as well. Don't worry Bo, its only a job.

You mean actress, right Will? LOL

Not to go *too* off topic here, but GW is doing phenomenally well. It's been in US theaters for 5 months and is fixin' to be #2 at the B.O. this weekend. It's made over $70 million so far and is well on its way to the 100M mark, a feat that only 13 films have done this year, thus far. GW cost about $5 million to produce and $15 million for P&A, so it's B.O. tally has made it one of the most profitable films of the year, not to mention one of the most successful platform releases in history!

Box Office Prophets posted a short article yesterday on its stunning performance at the B.O. over the last 20 weeks. It's worth the read. :o)

LoL..I would think he's an actor, she's an actor. (kissing *another* actress would make him the same) heehee, and I don't want him mad at me..he's probably got a 5 or 6 inch reach on me:-)
That was a good article at Box Office Prophets- it is doing remarkably well, not a 50 mil. opener like Independence Day, but a very happy surprise for all involved I'm sure.
Pat, you crack me up (# 12) Ya sure you're not from the South?

YOU MIGHT BE FROM SOUTH CAROLINA IF........

1. Excerpt from CNN:

"My Big Fat Greek Wedding" proved the most out-of-the-blue sleeper hit in years, an independent film shot on a tiny $5 million budget that opened in limited release in April and continues to gather steam nearly five months later. The film, about a Greek-American woman's raucous nuptials, has a shot at topping $100 million.

"I've been in this business for 15 years, and it's the most amazing film I've worked on," said Rob Schwartz, head of distribution for IFC Films, which released "Greek Wedding." "The thing is, you could substitute almost any ethnicity and it works. It could be an Italian wedding, a Jewish wedding. It speaks to everyone."

This is part of a summer film wrap up story that can be found here:

http://www.cnn.com/2002/SHOWBIZ/Movies/09/01/summer.boxoffice.ap/index.html

-=JAG!
(Who thinks most of the Greek Wedding's BO Total is due to "Bambi" re-watching it so often) :oP

If Bambi can drive up the total to 100million, all I have to say is can I borrow a few bucks, Bambi?
Michael Wilde (Mike)
09-02-2002, 05:53 PM
if it'll please the court, Yer Honor, but it took about 40 years to get that amount. it's not all that much when ID4 took $811 million during it's standard run.

It does please hizoner, but hizoner still wouldn't mind borrowing a few bucks... anyone?

Yaw, Mikey, but ID4 t'weren't made on no 5 mil either. ;-)
Sheri Gordon (Sheri)

AND

keep in mind Greek Wedding had a very limited theatrical release initially. (Wasn't it like only 300 screens?) It was only recently released to a wider number of theatres. And it's still HALF the number that Signs and Triple X are playing in, and it's still kicking their arses. ;-)
Well, the eqivolent for Bambi in today's money would be about 22 mil to make. It weren't cheep in those days... but then, Disney had a small demographic (short, too) :-)

the question is: would it kick butt today??

LOL! we're not referring to Bambi, the disney movie, we're referring to a certain JC fan on this bbs who goes by the nickname of "Bambi" :]
Oops! (Tomato red).
Would you believe... "Bambi" could also be worth 22 mil in today's money.

I was answering Sheri's answer, and lost the plot. (feels around on floor) It was here somewhere...

You've got to forgive me.

I got a scipt in the last week that is absolute hell to mark up and do Coverage on (obviously, the author is NOT from this list). Great premise... original story... but it has every mistake a writer could make in script.

I even recognized every mistake *I* made when I started writing way back when. Ahh, takes me back...) ;-[

Ah, the Karma a Writer gathers... :-}

I can almost see Dean sniggering in the b.g., but I can guarantee he's been through the same hell once or twice, before.
Chris Ceraolo (Chris)
09-05-2002, 05:37 AM
The perfect pill for writer's Karma...

Scream!

Yes, Scream. It helps you feel better in the long run. You know as well as I do that Dean is giggling in lurkdom (stop it dean, we see you!)'

Now, pick up the offending work, look at it and remember something important. You once did this to someone too.

Now, you feel better?

Chris
The FOX Plant

Hehehehe Amen!!! I guess some people gotta learn the hard way.
Will Finch (Shetan)
09-05-2002, 10:35 AM
No fear, Mikey, its ok to be half-cocked some of the time. You're not alone.(still laughing about Bambi)
Chris,
I already did the screaming, loud and often! Oh, so many poor readers i put through hell... at least I know the hell a writer goes through to make a masterpiece, and know that intricate brain surgery is child's play compared to writing. That's why i'm not mean when i mark up a script. (though I've incorporated some of their liner note comments into dialogue. (how i learned how to spell "duh!").

Sheri,
The idea is not to be hard on them, because we all make the same stupid mistakes.

Will,
Thankfully Bambi's mother never encounted hunters.
Will Finch (Shetan)
09-07-2002, 02:53 PM
:-) yes, that would have changed the story, and I liked it the way it was, even when the Prince of the Forest went after the hunter. If a new one were to be done today though, it might be best if Bambi's descendents encountered more hunters, what with decreasing natural habitat and all, that would be more humane than starvation.
Will,
I was referring to the other Bambi's mother, not the Disney one.
Sheri Gordon (Sheri)
09-08-2002, 09:11 AM
Too many Bambi's around here. Methinks it should be Bambi hunting season. ;-)
Bambi, bush & wabbit season.

*cocks her gun* Lemme at that Bush! I hear he's a weal wascally fe'w'ow. He might attack Canada someday, so I gotta off 'im now! ;-)
Javier Ariel Garza (Jag)
09-09-2002, 11:28 AM
Just FYI Sher- while I know you're kidding around, the mere fact that you're implying 'off'ing the President of the United States is still considered a federal offense.

And while I doubt the US Secret Service is gonna scrounge around the net for threats (either genuine or in jest), you never know.

Just a friendly word of warning.

-=JAG!

09-09-2002, 12:25 PM
Thanks Jag, I was about to say the same thing. Everybody (no matter what country) who mentions even in jest about getting Bush now has an FBI file (I kid you not).

In fact, just for warning you people, Jag and I probably have FBI files now too.
Sheri Gordon (Sheri)
09-09-2002, 01:29 PM
Oh geesh, get real people. Are you all that paranoid about your "leader"? Does he have that kind of control over your thoughts? So much for freedom of speech. ;-)

(But it makes my point. It's okay to kill someone else (Saddam), but heaven forbid anyone should do the same to Bush! Who died and made him God? I sure as hell didn't!)
Javier Ariel Garza (Jag)
09-09-2002, 03:27 PM
It has nothing to do with paranoia -- In the US, anyone here or abroad that makes a threat (even in jest) is taken seriously.

Was just giving you a head's up.

-=JAG!
I was rootin' for the other guy - at the elections. Still can't work out how Bush got in.
Sheri Gordon (Sheri)
09-09-2002, 08:53 PM
I was rootin for Option C. JAG for president! heehee
I think Fungus would make a great President. "Knee pads for all female whitehouse interns" would be his platform.

Why not a black female President? I think it's about time. She could introduce the same thing for male interns. And to get the white supremists, she should also be a Jewess. I have one in mind that is also a writer.
Presiding over this court is Judge (F_U_N_G_U_S)
09-10-2002, 02:18 PM
Erm, no. Thanks for the vote of confidence Mike, but I'm quite "un-Clinton-esque" in my White House policies.

I would paint the white house a different color though >;Þ

And Sheri, think about it for a moment:

Just last month there was that incident in New Mexico with the canadian stockpiling weapons and whatnot. Now suddenly another canadian jests about taking out the president? You would automatically go on the 'suspected possible terrorist' list. If the FBI came across this (and they potentially already have. We don't know what kind of agreement they have with EE's backbone service provider), they are probably running checks on you.
Sheri Gordon (Sheri)
09-10-2002, 02:41 PM
Good grief. They waste their time on stuff like this and miss the obvious right under their noses, being trained in their own flight schools. >:-P

Yeah, I'm so worried the US Feds will find me. They can't even identify the real enemy on the killing fields! >:-P

(This is all aside, of course, from the fact that *I* wouldn't kill a fly, let alone some dimwitted president. ;) )
Unfortunately, there are some dimwitted people with a Southern drawl that have been trying to do it for decades.

I'd like all the KKK members to wake up one morning black and circumcised.

How's that for Karma??
Sheri Gordon (Sheri)

The KKK are an embarrassment to humans!

Sheri, for all your "good grief" banter, the fact is they *are* doing it, and you need to be aware of the possible consequences if you're going to make a statement like that, even in jest.

Just because you're going "oh, that's dumb, they shouldn't do that" isn't going to make them stop at the airport on the way to your place and go "ya know fellas, she's right" and turn around and go home.
Sheri Gordon (Sheri)
09-11-2002, 09:15 AM
I'm not scared, Fungus. They couldn't find their way to Saskatchewan even if they were given a map. >:-P

I believe the terrorists have won. When you can't even speak your mind about the USA anymore. Sad.
Presiding over this court is Judge (F_U_N_G_U_S)
09-11-2002, 03:15 PM
Sheri, sorry, but that was just a plain dumb statement.

Speaking your mind about the USA is TOTALLY different from talking about harming the president.
Sheri Gordon (Sheri)
09-11-2002, 04:59 PM
Oh geesh. It's not like he's God, FFS! Or does he think he is?
Sheri Gordon (Sheri)
09-11-2002, 05:05 PM
The US govt is so full of itself that it can't even find it within itself to say "Sorry" for mistakes it's made.

It does not ask forgiveness for past wrongs because it believes it has done no wrong. It does not take reproach well either, for it is Perfect and doesn't need to be told where it's errors are. Thus, it will never learn because it refuses to listen. Only dictate.

And it wonders why it's a prime target???

Yeah, I can see why Bush wants to off Saddam. Because he knows if Saddam gets his hands on weapons of mass destruction, they'll be pointed US's way. Why? Because of past wrongs. Because of its present methods of conduct.

Will the US gov't smarten up in time?

Okay, okay, I declare peace. This discussion has gotten us all too heated up. hehehe

You don't run the country, nor do I, so arguing over it here doesn't accomplish anything, does it?

Sowweee.
Well, since peace is declared, and Sheri has spread a table with cakes that are a million calories a bite, let's dig in.

And reflect... that even though we fought and differed in opinion on the subject. We were not rude to one another, we were composed (despite shouting at each other now and then). Let's take stock.

Is anyone hurt? No.
Is anyone dead? No.
Has anyone been bombed, or bombed themselves? No
Has anyone infringed on the rights of anyone else? No.

Then we're one hell of an example for the world. Pay it forward.
