Just saw JP3(Jurassic park). Decent flick, yet interesting in the light of g98. We actually get to see a realistic fight between two monsters(something I've been waiting for Toho to do the last 15 years, and if g98 spawned a sequel we'd have seen one for sure...)And interesting that the main villain is a large two legged dino with fin like protrusions and a crocodile mouth.(Hmmmm familiar) There's even a comic scene where "Barney" is on tv(where else have I seen that?)

I was just glad to see Laura Dern (Wotta babe!) even if in just a SMALL part.

I was puzzled by the use of the Spinosaurus as the bigger badder Dino.
Admittedly, I am quite behind on my Dinosaur stuff. (College Dino Paleontology class was ten years ago... ;> )
But I do not recall ever hearing of a Spino skeleton that was larger than an Allosaur.
(REALLY need to get current again)
Why not a Gigantosaur? or even an oversized Acrocanthosaur? I guess the G98 parallel might just be accurate..
I still wanna see how the Carnotaurus would be handled in a movie (chameleonic)
It was interesting seeing that Ceratosaur. And I liked the Angillasaurs... er the Ankylosaurs, sorry But as Fungus said to me, the Pteranodons should have been less graceful on the ground.

Definitely not as "Smart" a movie as JP1, but a fun romp through the park.

Better than 2-

I've been living through the hype-and gods, there is plenty of hype. Liked it but it was much too short.

Chris
The Universal Employee and rampaging FOX plant

They avoided Gigantosaurus because it's way too similar to a Trex. They figured audiences who aren't in the know, would simply think it a bigger Rex. The Spino is a unique enough design, not to mention almost the same length/height as a Rex (but much lighter, a good 1-3 tons lighter). So it was a good choice.

btw, I have yet to see this movie :] Just saw the promo's, and since Discovery channel is trying to capitalize on JP3, I watched a few more dino specials, one of which had an exclusive JP3 preview, which is how I saw the Pteranodons. I am hoping desperately to see the movie this weekend.

I would like to find out, in that scene where the guy is paragliding to save the kid, and the kid jumps off the cliff and the flying lizards chasing them, are those baby Pterano's or are they another species? they looked a bit like dimorphodons, maybe ramphorincus (although the snouts were too wide and less toothy).

Don't tell me! I want to see it myself! :]

My little one's asking already, so its on the agenda. You'd be surprised at how many people still imitate the "spitter" dinosaur from JP1 by holding their fingers wide at their ears and making the hissing sound!

A family full of yuppies can navigate dinosaur infested jungles for days and escape relativly unharmed, with only a palentologist (who's advice they constantly ignore) and his sidekick (who's just...ya know, there) as their guides, yet mercinaries, armed to the teeth with gigantic guns get swallowed five minutes after they get off their plane.

Right.

But that was one damn cool fight scene.

Okay, it needed something, gee, I don't know, a PLOT!

I didn't care about some of the characters, and that to me is a major story flaw.

Chris
The Universal Employee and Fox Plant

I just saw it this weekend....
Not as good as JPI better than JII.
I enjoyed it as a fun popcorn flick.
I'd get it on dvd if I owned a dvd player.

My post above was just one of the many things that irked me about the movie. If you want to know the rest (and you know you do) then, well, here it is

JP3 review

you know, on the first line you say "this movie disserves a sequel"...

For the life of me, I can't tell if that was a typo or done on purpose :]

It all depends on how clever you think I really am. ;-)

What I have always not understood, is why hasn't anyone exploited the evil genetists from Biosyn. You know the shadowy villains from Jurassic Park. Dodgson rocked in Mickeal Chricton's Lost World. So why not make a real villian that is trying to kill off the people on the island, gain what would be a scientists paradise, but then again, it would require some actual writing and thinking process.

In comparason to the other films, this one sucked the big one. Forget JP3, go see Final Fantasy.

Plant of Apus wasn't that great either. Tell me where in the freaking movie is the native human's names every mentioned? Not that it matters, while the movie had action, it lacked human characters. Liked Avi though, although she's an ape. but hey.

Ape make-up or no ape make-up, she's still Helena Bonham Carter...yummy

Final Fantasy was rather boring. I was very disappointed that they didn't stick too closely with the mythos they had built up for TEN games! I mean, they had the gaia spirit, and the lifestream, but that's it! One of the most prominent recurring themes is the 'summons'. Called Espers, Guardian Forces, Eidolons, and different things throughout, they've always had a place in FF.

btw, all the dino's in JP should be dead now. They were 'borne' into a world the same way (more or less, genetically) as they were 65+ million years ago. However, there are like several HUNDRED THOUSAND more varieties of germs, bacterium, and virii. They wouldn't last half a day outside the lab...

The director/writer who orignally created Final Fantasy (Games) and movie, was asked this question. He replied, every Final Fantasy game is different, and this movie is going to be. He said if you expect the game, then you would be disappointed, but anyway it looked pretty.

well, I wasn't expecting the game per se, just a few of the more 'visually stunning' aspects of it. I mean, all of the summons' since FF7 have been awesome, so imagine seeing even one in that degree of 3d...

Enjoy those games.."your mind is an amazing adventure" nabbed that from The Visitor. As well as life itself.

I've played FF7 exactly once, over at a former friend's house. And while I had even less interest in the movie than I did in the video game ("What? No xenomorphs? Screw it!"), I can tell you that my friend (who'd played every single FF game in existance) was quite pissed at the movie, ever since the first trailers started to surface.

Well, getting pissed from the early previews is just naysaying (look at all the crap about GMK, and it's only JUST NOW finished the live action shooting)

I thought FF was AWESOME! Just looking at it was cool enough, but at least the writer spent some time working on an actual plot, unlike two certain sci-fi movies that just sucked, Planet of the Apes and JP3 (Hopefully it will go extinct before JP4)
