New Yearbs TV spots thoughts on the film

I was wondering if anyone caught these very very very cool tv spots around New Year's 1998. <BR> <BR>It began with the famous ball coming down and the countdown is going off and people are going 10... 9... 8... then they hear the thud of Godzilla's foot steps. Nobody's paying attention to the event anymore, because now they all see a huge tail that swipes the ball off it's chain into the crowd. Then a narrator says 1998 is the year... of GODZILLA. <BR> <BR>I remember being at the beach when I first saw that tv spot and I was speechless. I knew they were going to make the movie, it was just a matter of when. Me and my dad have always been Godzilla fans and when we saw that we just couldn't wait for it. <BR> <BR>It makes me wonder.... while I was so very excited about this, were other Godzilla fans going nuts too? Or were most of them just sour to the idea of an American Godzilla to begin with? Because, as I've said, I was all for a realistic, faster, more agile monster. <BR>It really wasn't just a movie for me, but an event. <BR> <BR>I was wondering how you people felt when you started hearing about the film. <BR> <BR>I know some of you think I'm overly obsessed about this film, and I guess I am. It's a very good movie.

Oh you bet some of us were. <BR>I love the movie too, it took seeing it 2 times to really appreciate it. Now I have it on dvd, the only G movie on dvd so far.

That's cool! <BR> <BR>I pop in the DVD alot of times and go to specific scenes and turn the volume up just a couple of notches from being as far as it will go. So when the bullets fly and the Godzilla roars my house literally shakes and trembles! I know the neighbors think something's wrong with me! <BR>LOL

You're overly obsessed? I've got a 6 hour tape FILLED with news reports, commercials, and just about everything else that hit the airwaves regarding G98 from about middle 97 up until the the live premiere, and the Showtime special :]

We just watched the DVD again, and found ourselves holding our breath at the part where Godzilla snagged the fishing boats and started pulling them under, while the crew bailed. Thinking, they've got a long swim... when, up popped the boat...that was a good touch, whew.
