OK..I have found some more information, and it is kinda depressing.

I suspected the moment I knew the score wouldn't be released, that some ligit copies none the less existed, and so my agitation....suspicions were confirmed at the surfacing of bootlegs, as these can only sucessfully be made from an orriginal studio produced copy, and so my aggrivation only festered. Well, now it has come to a head, and I believe I have come to find the best knowldege as to what is and isn't about the notorious show/no show, greatly anticipated, Godzilla full score, with music by David Arnold.

Ok...here goes...
"The Academy Promo is very unique as it is a pressed CD.

The CDR released to collectors only was by Concorde and is a factory pressed CDR with printing on the CDR and is Concorde 9910 listing number." This was sent to me by someone who has a collectors site for hard to find scores and releases.

Another bit of info... http://www.raresoundtracks.com/DavidArnold/DavidArnold.htm
This site has actual pics of the two differnt releases, one of the Academy promo, and the other of the CDR promo from Concorde.

http://www.filmtracks.com/titles/godzilla.html
This site has an article in general on the subject.

Yes...I have been busy searching about, e-mailing, and calling all sorts of people. hehehe Being my pesky self.

So it would seem that one thing is certain, a certain number of CDs were created for the Academy Award consideration in January 1999, and the bootlegs followed this.

But here is where I am confused.

Some sources seem to indicate that in addition to the release by David Arnold for Academy Award consideration, there was also a legal release for collectors, which is the Concorde release, the Godzilla full score, Concorde 9910 listing number. They claim this was not a bootleg, as it was a factory pressed CDR, with printing on the CDR. Others I have spoken to are comletly at a loss about this, and only know about the Academy Awards release and the subsequent bootlegs.

Also, I found no information for any other legal releases in other countries, such as Japan.

I hope to talk to a few more film score and promotional release colectors to find out more concrete info on the subject of Concorde.

It would also be nice to know how many CDs were pressed for the Academy Awards, and how many were pressed by Concorde for the limmited colectors release.

Actually, the original score was released in Japan (we got that crappy 'inspired by' soundtrack, Japan got the actual score).

Where did you find this Fungus, cause so far no one here can confirm that. Perhaps that was the limmited release done by Concorde. If I knew what studio released it in Japan then I would have at least something to go by...my brother has fammily there via his wife. Unfortunately, I think a lot of bootlegs are over there too, as well as Taiwan and Hong Kong, cause the real thing just costs so much, and they have the technology to mass produce CDs.

I talked with a friend at AMPAS re this. He said a minimum run gets pressed - about 200. the Acadamy uses about 50 of them, and most are put in storage. Their mind is not on collectors, but to preserve the work.

Depending on the quality of the bootlegs, chances are it's an inside job at the company that press the CD's. some of the run are rejects, and they get melted down or thrown in the dumpster. Most bootlegs are burned from the original CDs. If the printing is identical but mussed up a bit, or have a slight problem in the recording, they're the ones that're thrown out.

So...anyone know who or what Concorde is? They seem to do a lot of full score releases, for promotional use. Any way to contact them?

It is a shame this score is so hard to get ahold of...apparently some have mannaged to get it, the legal ones, or they wouldn't have the info on their sites or the titles..I have found a total of three sets of song titles, apparently they varied from ones of the bootlegs to the Academy print to the Concorde print, assuming the Academy print and Concorde print are two seperate releases.

I still want that score...and would pay a few hundred for it, a legal one that is...It has turned into a game of sorts. Ticked I have had to play it for so long, but ammused that I am not the only one out there seeking such oddities out...Found a fellow seeker of songs from the Disney moovie "Flight of the Navigator". heheh

Check this link out.... http://www.6942.net/CDcoll.html Looks pretty tasty....you could collect them all. hehehe

I found lots of interesting sites..even stores that deal in rare CDs and Promotional releases, but no full score...pissed I am.....but determined to find it...one day. hehehe

Perhaps I will trade a bronze for it.

BTW...Mike said they keep them in storage to preserve the music...what is the point in preserving it when no one can enjoy it?

So, fungus, how do we get it??

AMPAS has the original clapper board and a piece of sound film - both Australian inventions, and the first ever feature film (Australian, again)... At least the aussies can enjoy the first-ever TV newsreader in the world to sit behind a desk (born in New Zealand).

It was in general print in Japan, but because of how badly G98 was received there, they stopped printing it right quick. *possibly* www.cdjapan.com might have it, but I haven't checked.
