Ahh, a Red Dwarf fan, I presume?
Welcome aboard.

To answer the question, I would have to say "No".
(Mind you, this is just the opinion of an average Message board member)

While the movie made a great deal of money, the controversy it's caused would be a major consideration in planning a sequel.

If you really need to see the creature again, I'd suggest seeing the 2005 Japanese film "Godzilla: Final Wars".

This should be released to DVD here in the States any time now.
"Zilla" makes a brief apearance in this film as one of many Daikaiju (Giant monsters) attacking Japan and Godzilla himself..

Occasionally Sony talks about doing a sequel, but if they did, I doubt that Roland or I would be part of it.

Thanks for asking,

-Dean Devlin

Are you really Dean Devlin?

Yes, he really is Dean Devlin.

Dean's interaction with his internet based fans is legendary.

It's a pity most actors and other movie/TV Show making persons don't take as much time as he does getting to know fans and making note of their opinions and etc...

(Though several cast members of Firefly post & read messages at the show's official Message boards on occasion)

I too can vouch that that is indeed Dean Devlin. We've been a part of these boards for about 8 years now. Wow, how the time flies!!!

Mr. D speaks the truth. Heck, even *I* was talking to a Sony rep about getting involved in the sequel. I think there might be a chance though, if "King Kong" is a success...

Yeah the Dean Robot debate was debunked ages ago!

I did see a Godzilla 2 treatment a while back. However, it didn't look that great, and I wasn't impressed at all. It wasn't nearly as charming as Dean and Roland's vision. Probably why Sony hasn't opted into making it.

Godzilla is my favourite film since I watched it seven years ago in cinema. It would be so great if they make a sequel!

To Dean Devlin:

You said before that you are not really sure if you or Roland Emmerich would be involved in a sequel. I have to say that a second part done by a different team could be OK, but I think in this case the first one would still be better, because you and Roland Emmerich brought such a wonderful charm in this great film and that's what I appreciate so much until today when I watch it.
So I would like to know if you were personally interested to continue the story of the big green lizard?

I think it's safe to say D and E will never be involved in a sequel. Aside from their parting with Sony (which of course, can always be resolved. Business is business, afterall), no matter how good the sequel would be, "anti-hype" would kill it. There is too much negative stigma attached to the terms "Godzilla" and "Devlin and Emmerich".

As for personal interest? I can't answer for Mr. D nowadays, but I know not too long ago he stated he still would have enjoyed working on the sequel.

I would LOOOVE to see a sequel To Godzilla. But it would HAVE to be with Emmerich and Devlin involved. The original Gojira 1954 movie is very good actually. But I still like this one much more... Perhaps they could all work an arrangement with Sony/Toho? Mr. Devlin have you even talked about it with some executive? Despite all of the negative reviews and fanboys whining if you do make a sequel I assure you that a LOT of people would love to see it. I search the net almost every day to see if there are news about a possible sequel.. And every day I end up dissapointed :(
I think you should AT LEAST talk to Roland (And if he is interested first of all of course)try to talk with some Sony execs. See if it could be done... Your fans are counting on it.
Thanks for the time.
