it's getting seriously difficult to take the oscars seriously anymore. Godzilla 98 (at the 99 awards ceremony) was just the start (the movie pioneered new effects techniques that affected the entire industry, and isn't even a nominee?), Frida winning best makeup over Two Towers? They gave her a unibrow. Oooh. Michael Moore winning for best documentary? According to the Academy rules, number 11, a documentary must be based on *fact*. There is substantial evidence showing that Bowling for Columbine is not only subjective to Moores view (which is also *not* what a documentary is), but that through clever editing and cutaways, almost everything portrayed is false. He cut together multiple meetings/speeches and even edited out entire paragraphs just so he could make a few words meet. It's really disgusting. The oscars are a joke at best. Nobody takes them seriously except the academy.

Well, fungus one of the Doco nominees entered one that was not based on truth... it may have been poor production values, but the nominee wasn't Mick's piece.

If you took a good hard honest look at America and her history. You would find that he is right. I might sound aplogetic, but what he said is rooted in America's DNA, as is Racial Prejudice and violence. (Where poaching is popular, no law can stop it.)

If you look, you will find that each suburb has differnt laws from the next. One suburb may allow a 17 year old to drive, but he would get arrested in the next suburb cos the driving age is probably 21.

America was built on fear and survival. America IS and continues to be the Wild West (and east). people are still living in fear to the point that they still believe in "kill or be killed". This is the awful truth.

In the time it took me to write this, over 100 people have died in East LA alone from being shot... and have suffered from some form of violence.

Yes, Mick does stretch the point, but not one scene in "Bowling" was staged. If America changed their right to bear arms, to the right to bare arms (roll up your sleeves and help your fellow man), America may have a chance to go from barbarism to society. There are too many people in America who abhorr violence and unethical actions.

If the awards were a popularity contest and a way to double your fee, how would Roman Polanski and Mick have won??

I admit, Mike is clever. He uses vague language in much of what he says. He said "after the shooting...". Of course it was 8 MONTHS after the shooting, but the way he presents it is subversive, having you believe it was right after.

But I digress.

http://www.opinionjournal.com/forms/printThis.html?id=110003233

http://www.techcentralstation.com/1051/defensewrapper.jsp?PID=1051-350&CID=1051-032503B

http://www.hardylaw.net/Truth_About_Bowling.html

The first two are largely opinion, but the last link, which lists all of Moore's "clever editing tricks", also uses facts (taken from neutral sources) to counter Moore's subjective (and subversive) arguments. Be prepared though, that last link is a long read.

In an interview with the grand wizard if the KKK, he said that the KKK became the KKK in 1871. Before that they were not organized as a "force"

Being a vocal and well-known member of the KKK, Hardy should know the history of the group he's involved with much better than than he actually does.

Any full-blooded American patriot, would not support injustices that make America an embaressment to the world, but would fight for justice of all.

Independance Day (4th of July) was about freedom! freedom from slavery, freedom from fear.

Fungus, if people take eight months to die from being shot in the head by a cop for taking out his wallet to prove his identity, or being given a hot shot or overdose with cocaine (another form of violence), or having their intestines flap in the breeze after being shot with a shot gun or powerful hand gun, or being beaten to death in the main street during peak hour while people just walk by or step over the body without one ounce of human compassion or care, then okay, it takes 8 months.

How bad does it have to be for people to be so desensitized to violence that I had to watch that last example and watch those around me not give a damn.

I was in New York on the 11th of September. Of the 20 or so people in the street around me, only 4 actually felt any compassion for those in the towers. The rest just shrugged and thanked God it wasn't them. I even heard a couple complain about the dust!!!!

I watched the Oscars too. I heard the thunderous applause that almost drowned out the five or six boos.

Un-vague enough for ya??

No, because I don't understand your point within the context of the discussion. We seem to be talking apples and oranges.

Whoa!!! Yah for Chris Cooper!!!! I had to miss it wouldn't ya know. My wife saw it and said he was gentlemanly eloquent. Congrats to him. He deserves the Oscar! I will say from watching him work in The Patrot, he gives his all, is very well prepared and convincing.

I'm glad we're all (most of us) still free enough to have opinions.
