Is it true that the title is being changed to "Eight Legged Freaks" because in light of recent events, "Arac Attack" sounds a bit too similar to "Iraq Attack"?

In a certain way that would make sense...

Right Tina, but I don`t find it necessary. In my opinion it`s a little bit exaggerated.

Andrea

Eight Legged Freaks sounds corny. Cheap. Silly.

Don't forget though, that mutant spiders are a classic B-movie concept, and a lot of those films from the past did have titles like that, so it could be an ironic poking-fun-at-itself type of thing.

Now, "The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies" - there's a silly title

Plus, try being on this side of the border (no offense to any of our foreign friends). This is a time when everybody is trying to be as sensitive as they can possibly muster. I think Tina hit the nail on the head. Of course, there's got to be a better name... (I personally wasn't too keen on 'arac attack' myself, but 'eight legged freaks' is even worse...)

Sensetive schmensetive...but whatever. I don't run a movie studio. If I did, given the current culture, I'd probably get sued 20 times a year for stepping on someone's emotional toes.

Still, I can't help hearing things like this (and the rumor that they're editing a few key sections out of Spider-Man for obvious reasons) and think Jeeze, the people are gonna have to face it sometime. Why sugar coat the tramas of the preasent? Isn't sugar coating the dramas of the past enough?

What's to sugar coat? Nobody's sugar coating anything. Sugar coating is making a movie of the WTC disaster, starting with bin Laden flushing kittens as a kid, then having NYPD lifting multi-ton debris to save a kitten after the disaster. now THAT's sugar coating :]

Besides, now I have to rethink the HUGE climax to my Godzilla sequel that I keep trying to get Sony to HIRE ME! for.

Oh, I hate to admit it, but watching the events of Sept. 11 as they happened that morning, I kept thinking about Godzilla. At least Godzilla ran around corners, was pretty big, maybe a waving tail did some dammage. But it wasn't intentional destruction, really.

The incredible thing was that I started wishing it *was* just a big lizard. Odd, huh? When a disaster film looks better than real life. :-(

It's strange, while films are being delayed or shelved indefinately, TV shows are being cut or having references to the Twin Towers taken out and Atomic Kitten songs are taken off the radio, an episode the "West Wing" is hastily being re-written to include a terrorist plot!

It's what we do around these parts. We slap band aids on exit wounds. We either find a way to use a tramatic disaster and package it as entertainment (oh, don't you love CNN's round-the-clock coverage?), or we completely ignore the problem, afraid that even mentioning it will cause a section of the target audience to change channels before the comericals air.

Here's a bandaid for you...

http://www.michaelmoore.com/mirrors/banned_songs_list1.htm

And to Godzilla: a few days afterward I pulled the movie out again and watched it on DVD. I wanted to convince myself that grevious destruction of public property could still be fun to watch...and it can be...as long as it isn't real.

Take that, Hollywood.

Well said, Doc Psy..as long as it isn't real. Fungi, if you script in any terrorists, be sure to add some Venturas or Hodges types to deal with them. Take that, ya bloody terrorists.

Oh F-13, btw, I hope the title Arac Attack is left as is. Thought about you the other day. Had a delicious meal and a wonderful time at a little Irish pub upstate (complete with a sing-along as well) It was a hoot and a good start at getting back to normalcy.

Will, glad you enjoyed yourself - was it a stew or bacon & cabbage?

I agree that I'd like to see "Arac Attack" remain unchanged, but someone who worked on the film confirmed that the title would be changed, but they didn't know what to.

I wonder where the line should be drawn. A great song called "Bombshell Cabaret" over here has been prevented from being commercially released until next month, due to sensitivity.

It started off with brie and garlic cheese, shrimp and meatballs, then a chicken dish or salmon almondine, except it was salmon with pecans with a maple syrup sauce. Absolutely delicious, topped off with a Heineken.

Maybe "Spiders with Attitudes"?

What's wrong with Eight Legged Freaks?
I love that sort of stuff. Terrified of spiders and they may have to duct tape me in my seat, but the more I hear the more excited I get. I love those old B films.

The Head that Wouldn't Die still freaks me out. All those Vincent Price/Edgar Allen Poe/Roger Corman films? Man OH man!! The Raven (Ol Jack N. looking like a baby), Pit and the Pendulum, Fall of the House of Usher, and what's the one where VP thinks he's buried his wife alive? Her "ghost" follows him around the old castle whispering Niiiiiicolasssss? Tim Burton paid homage to it in Sleepy Hollow with the iron maiden bit... anyone? anyone?

I'd go with Eight Legged NIGHTMARE! [insert witch cackle]

Dudes, everyone will draw the line in a different place. They had to skip showing the pilot ep for some new show (I think The Agency) because it was ABOUT a plot by bin L. For me, it's not really important where the boundaries of others lie. Everyone handles things in their own way. I just don't like people dictating where MY boundaries should be. ;)

Will, I'm coming to your house for dinner!

Well Fungie, that's what happens when you're a very small person around some very tall horses. About the only one who DIDN'T leave snot rockets in my hair was Cricket. Shetland, pinto pony. Then there was Tripper with his facial FUNGAL infection. I had to treat it with pink gooey meds which he LOOOOVED to wipe off on me. Usually my back or my chest and usually knocking me to the ground in the process. Darn fungus anyway...

Glad to hear Cruiser is home safe and sound and fertilizing your yard. Ya know, Sher, you can save that stuff. Mix it with a bit of straw and leave it to dry out a bit. Give it to folks with tomato plants and rose bushes. My mom's were always GLORIOUS after a good dowsing with poo.

Bro-in-law was gonna come out yesterday with his digital camera, but he didn't make it out. Darnit! I think I'll be able to DRAW a picture of him faster than I'll be able to get photos of 'im. heehee

Eight Legged Freaks does sound a little too cheap to me also. I think of that cheezy movie, Freaked when I hear it. To me it sounds as if it was thought up over night and not given enough thinking through. It sounds too direct to video to me.
How about taking the name, Giant Spider Invasion.
Then you can call it GSI, and have it glow in green, and white. Maybe a little Godzilla-ish. You want people to laught at the film, not the name. I know there is an older movie called that, but this to me seems like a remake of that B-Movie.

Prediction found in the latest issue ("Year in Review") of Cinescape:

"On the heels of the big spider movie Arac Attack changing its name to Eight-Legged Freaks because its original title was deemed inappropriate so soon after the terrorist attacks, George Lucas decides to rename Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones as well. The new title will be the softer: Star Wars: Episode II - The Clones Tried to Hurt Us But Our Spirits Won't Be Broken."

LOL!
