The site preview thread got deleted... did I say something wrong?

Anyway Pat, I don't remember signing up for the WB newsletter either, but I did buy from their online store a few months ago, so maybe they took the "liberty" of adding me to their list.

Hmmm... I thought the idea was to give us a taste and whet our appetites? I just thought I'd share with fellow 'holics.

Hey, maybe I am a rebel after all Causing mass anarchy and destruction by reprinting info sent out on a mailing list I didn't actually sign up for [highly confidential?!]

sorr-eeeee *sniff*

Can you not get to post on the boards, Sher? I think you need to have an AOL IM id first, and then you have to register so you can keep up to date with WB activities. Ahem.

Noo I mean, how come they can get in to see this site, but we can't talk about it HERE. I mean, obviously it's no huge secret if folks are posting on it.

It's baffling, and frankly dampening my interest in a film I'd been looking forward to for almost a year. If there are certain guidelines for posting here, it'd be nice to know about them.

Never mind, "Scooby Doo" is out on June 14th, and Matthew Lillard is brilliant as Shaggy!

I posted this over on the ELF/WB site and figured I'd post it here too:

According to the IMDb (which is notorious for providing *wrong* information), the name change from "Arac Attack" to "Eight Legged Freaks" was attributed to David Arquette's "dementedly inspired improvisation," which director Ellory Elkayem and producers apparently preferred.

But in last year's "2001 Year in Review" issue of Cinescape (which hit newsstands in November), the editors referenced Freaks' name change as part of a longer joke. They wrote, "...the big spider movie Arac Attack chang[ed] its name to Eight-Legged Freaks because its original title was deemed inappropriate so soon after the terrorist attacks..." (Pg 17.)

So what's the real reason? Anybody know?

(PS: That other BBS is weird! It doesn't wrap paragraphs. ICK!)

I'll risk posting this before Godzilla gets peckish again... from http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/

Dean Devlin, producer of the upcoming giant-spider movie Eight Legged Freaks, told SCI FI Wire that the film's title started out as a joke. Producers changed the film's original title, Arac Attack, after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, to prevent people mistaking it for Iraq Attack. "The studio retitled the movie Attack of the Killer Spiders," Devlin said in an interview.

Devlin added, "I said, 'No, if you're going to go in that direction, you have to go much more campy. Do a title like Big Ass Spiders or Eight Legged Freaks. Something like that.' A week later, I got a call from marketing saying, 'They love your title!' 'What title?' 'Eight Legged Freaks.' 'No! I was just kidding!'" Devlin said with a laugh. But he admitted, "I really like the title now. In the beginning, I was like, 'I was kidding,' but now I like it, because not only does it represent the time, it also represents the tone of the movie. This movie is that kind of silly."

ROFL Good question Pat. Who *really* knows?

And what is Andrew's mailing address? I gotta send him some sunglasses!

Dean Devlin (Devlin)

The answer is both things are correct. The studio wanted to change the title in light of the September 11th attacks, we agreed. As a "temp" title, the studio began calling the film "Attack of the killer spiders". I did then say that if they wanted to have a more retro title they should do something like "Big Assed Spiders" or "Eight Legged Freaks." Both of those titles are actually lines of dialogue from the film. The line "Get back, you Eight...Legged...Freaks...." WAS an improvisation that David Arquette did on the looping stage. We thought it was hysterical and it made the film. So, you see, both interpretations of how the title came about is true.

Sorry about the deleted post, but the sneak preview is really for people on the e-mail lists of Warner Bros. and Electric Entertainment. We didn't want the password and id posted publicly. We wanted to save that as a treat for the hard core fans. Now I know that pretty much everyone on this BBS is a die hard fan, but our agreement with Warners was that we wouldn't post the information on the site, but save it as a special presentation to the subscribers. I hope you understand and sorry for not making that clear sooner.

Happy holidays....

-Dean Devlin

No static cling, for a start.
=======
I can fully appreciate the Iraq/Arac thing. I was in the middle of a comedy re: bumbling arab terrorists (based on an old Israeli prediction), until the producer rang to stop it 11:30pm the night before.
