Well, I FINALLY got around to renting E.L.F.
(The wife is Arachnophobic, and thus refused to see it)

Oh, about every ten to thirty seconds the disc skipped forward ten minutes.
Then finally just stopped altogether.
"This disc cannot be played, Please check the disc."

I really need to buy a new player. :\

The Cat vs Spider in the wall bit was funny.

Cleaned all the fingerprints on the rental disc.

Plays much better, but still freezes.
Getting throught the movie in bigger chunks & not missing any.

Not bad at all, Dean.

sounds like disc issues, not player issues.

My bad.
Didn't explain the relevance of the thread title.

Yes, this disc had issues.
Scratched up a bit and, when I rented it, COVERED in fingerprints.
Obviously not everyone knows to handle a DVD by the edges..

My player however, has issues of it's own.
It locks up & crashes, usually about 3/4 of the run time of the movie.
It does this with brand-new, just out of the wrapper, never before watched discs.

The player needs repaired or replaced.

I have yet to get an estimate on how much the repairs will be, But I've been told it's usually a minimum of $50.00 just for the people to look at them.

I've seen players at Wal-Mart sell for $48.

All this said, I finished watching the movie at lunchtime.
I enjoyed it & will be adding it to my Holiday Gift list.

Did you tell your wife that it is recommended by 7 out of 10 Arachnophobics?

Just make sure you don't ask her why she's brushing imaginary spiders off of her clothes. You may be sleeping on the couch for a month.

I'm Arachnophobic, and I enjoyed it.

Just my old self here, being a wide mouth! (For all you Sasketches) Did anyone see the star of Eight Legged Freaks on Letterman the other night? It was hilarious, Mr. Arquette got squashed by this humongous pumpkin which was proportionately about the same size as some of those giant spiders in ELF's. Saw Radio the other day, its very good and you should go see it, one of the previews there was about another Elf movie, with Zooey Deschanel (daughter of Cinematographer for The Patriot) There's a snowball throwing sequence in there I just laughed SO hard at. And another, I think Peter Pan, with, correct me if I'm wrong, Jason Isaacs??? (the notorious Tavington)

Yes, the two moose sound like Cheech and Chong...looks like a good one.

"When I walk outside in the middle of the rain.." They have a nice sound, kinda unique and pleasurable. The next time you see them, you may compliment them for me

I most certainly will, Will! Btw, they got hired to make the official Grey Cup song this year, since our Riders are in it. (Not that I know much about sports outside of drag racing, mind you.)

You should see some of the rather....interesting....poetry that Shaun posts on their website's band journal. Surely to end up in some of their new songs, but it makes you wonder what goes on inside that kid's head sometimes.

"treefingerfilmfest

riding in an autumn car
crunching over leaves
I drove while she was resting
now she drives so I can sleep
the sun begins to flicker on my eyelid movie screens
through the busted knuckle branches
of the nearly naked trees...

filled with quiet wonder
I sit in reverie
as rhythms and the flashes from the sun shine into me
they slow down as my lover breaks
and quicken when she speeds
and I watch with eyes unopened
the celestial puppetry"

Recently, someone posted a jam session where Shaun picked up a guitar and played music to this poem. Rather sweet. You can hear it here:

http://www.widemouthmason.com/ROP-ex/treefingerfilmfest.mp3

My personal fav though is dead lyric garden....

words
hang on the dusk like a hot air balloon deflating
crumpled and creased
with cauliflower faces

stranded like a tail-light
in my spider's web of a windshield

until lightning scratches the sky
like a cheshire cat
grinning electricity

cut loose
they spiral down like helicopter leaves
and mumble themselves
into the ground

Damn, damn, damn...just visited the Grey Cup 2003 website, and not only is WMM playing there this year (and they did the theme song... Flat Out in Saskatchewan ) But the band lineup also includes Big Sugar, Streetheart, Bryan Adams, April Wine, Sam Roberts....

DAYUMMM! Wonder how long I can endure a stupid football game just to go see those bands play? ;-P

Having been to a game myself, Sheri, I will tell you: Even though on TV it seems like it takes forever, the games usually go by MUCH quicker when you're there in person. (Especially when you talk with other people and make lots of jokes).

Oh, David Arquette was on again, the way late show with Craig Kilborn just this night. Too good.

Hey does anyone play golf? I've got some golf balls that, like Sher's trophy, are just collecting dust. Oh, I can play the game, but time and sports preference have rendered them almost useless for now anyway, know what I mean? If anyone can use them, let me know.

Golf balls are really cool when you take a hammer to them and crack them open. Watch the elastics slowly come apart from the ball.

Yeah, I'm twisted. hehehe

I used to play golf. Was even on the golf team in High School. I could drive the ball farther than anyone, using only a pitching wedge! Only problem was, I had no accuracy on the putt, so I'd get to the green in one, maybe two strokes, then it'd take me another 10 to sink the ball...

Fun watching the dog chew the cover off the golf balls.
He got the cover off & broke the rubber band thing.
Then freaked out when the ball began to jump around as the band unravelled. :D
