A slate is a black chalkboard used to take notes down on. It's become a term used when referring to one's upcoming plans, even though slates are rarely used anymore.

Ironically, in the film biz, you know those little handheld things with the black and white slightly skewed stripes? that they go "and action!" and it makes a clak sound? (sorry, my mind is so blank now, I can't remember what they are called for the life of me).

Well, they use the very same type of chalkboard and they write down which scene is filming on it. It could be called a slate, but I don't think that's right...

In German it is called " Klappe ", but I have got a book at home with filmlanguage translations, I will look for that in it and tell you soon.

Greetings

Hogan

Mhm. I thought about changing my screenwriters pseudonym, anyone an idea for a name ?
"Hogan" is so Australian, don´t you think ?
And I am from Austria.

Wasn't it a "clapper"? For in film credits, there's sometimes listed a "clapper loaded".

Hogan sounds so much like a male name. Unless that's what you were after?

If you search around the IF MaG. there's a section there (can't remember exactly) that lists terms of about everything film related. Its great.

Hogan you should make it something to do with the mountains, Alps, skiing, Ricola, (or izzat Switzerland?)

I will switch over to the IF-mag board and ask them, so I don´t have to search.

I never would take a name from a mountain cause I don´t want to be walked on..
But why are you suggesting only mountain sports with Austria ? Skiing is okay, but there is also sailing and surfing and swimming.. I prefer watersports, so I called my filmfirm
" Seahorsefilmproductions "
Just bad that there are no seahorses in Austrian lakes. They only swim in salt water, aren´t they ?
One could try to settle them down in a lake.
So my new name should have to do with water.
But please don´t say " The mairmaid ", cause I already made an artfilm about that theme.
( Salisbury, Summerakademy 1991.called " The voices" , my first video film, super8 films I have already made with 8 years and later, more professional for artfilms. )
Some ideas for a name ?

A clapper-a board used to help syncronize film.

A clapper loader is in charge of making sure that the clapper is labeled correctly.

Chris
The Film grad

Thanks Chris :]

oh, Nina? just a word of advice sweetie, don't use the term "watersports" too often. It has bad connotations...

I am glad to use didital video material, so that I don´t need a "Clapper". But I usually speAK THE BEGINNING OF THE SCENES ON IT:
Have a nice day,
I am driving home.
And will go to eat some icecream.

Greetings

Hogan ( Still no new name sweetie ? )
