This may have been reported already, but I found an interview with Don Mancini [creater of the Child's Play films] which contained the following...

*** I sold [a script] last year to Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin. An idea called “The Fur Flies”, which is basically an homage to another genre that I love, which is the disaster movie. The spin on it is that it’s an airport movie that focuses on all of the pets that are traveling in the cargo hold of a 747 and there’s a disaster. You know in the disaster formula, people are all from different social strata and wouldn’t even meet.

They’re brought together by a disaster and have to toss aside their differences to work together to survive. In this case, it's different species of animals that in real life not only don’t get along, but also like to eat one another. But they have to set aside their differences to save the plane and bring it down safely. So I sold that as a pitch to “Metropolis Entertainment” and last I heard they’re going to make it as an animated movie which I think is not as good as doing it as a live action movie, but that’s not in my hands anymore. It seems to be moving forward. ***

Metropolis Entertainment? Doesn't he mean Centropolis Entertainment??

The full interview can be found here.

Interesting, but most commercial airlines have strict limitations on the amount of pets allowed on each flight. [Pat smells a nit-pic on the horizon. LOL]

Examples of restrictions:

American Airlines: Allows no pets in-cabin on international flights. In addition, it has established a total embargo on shipping animals between May 15th-Sept 15th. From Sept 16th-May 14th, there will be temperature restrictions - above 85 and below 45 degrees for cargo hold.

Continental: 1 pet in business and 2 in coach.

Delta: 1 in 1st class, 1 in business, and 2 in coach.

Northwest: 1 in business and 1 in coach compartment (some planes have 3 coach compartments.)

TWA: 1 pet is allowed in the main-cabin, 1 in the upper cabin. On wide-bodied flights, 3 pets are allowed. In the coach section, they may separate 2 pets by 10 rows, but it varies with flights.

United: Number of pets allowed in-cabin depends on type of aircraft, but the pet container must be no larger than 22"x14"x9".

US Air: No pets allowed in-cabin. Effective June 16th, pets will not be allowed to travel as freight/cargo until further notice.

Maybe "The Fur Flies" will take place on a foreign airline? *snicker*

Pat, not to nit pic your nit pic, but those restrictions are per person. I'm sure that the script has some abyssmal plot device like a pet convention or something, that a bunch of people are going to (probably in some little out of the way podunk town, that nobody would fly to for any reason save this, creating el plotto deviceo as to why so many would be on the same plane at once).

Hey, and I don't even get paid for this! :]

Or they're in cargo. Friend of mine buys dogs from around the world and they're shipped to her via plane.

The restrictions are per *plane.* Go to the airline websites and see for yourself. And if the animals are in the cargo hold, people can't interact with them, or each other. Also, kiss the cargo hold pets good-bye in a crash. Chances are slim the *humans* will survive in such a situation. ;o)

well, the premise seems to be that the animals are interacting with each other, not with the humans :]

Well, if nobody survives, then there'd be no movie, right?

Metropolis indeed. Dem bums. Get it RIGHT! Sheesh. They 'spect their movie to stay live action when they can't even get the prodco's name right? Pah. ;-)

Lol - but the idea is cool, isn't it!? Imagine that being a cargo flight only, or whatever it would be called, with the pilot and co-pilot, or whoever, being the only humans on the plane... So it should not be too difficult to find a reason for disabling the both of them, lol...

I think, the idea of making an animated movie out of it, is a very good one. Well, this is fantasy! Anyway it will be more a kind of parable, I guess, which should work pretty fine in that form. Reminds me a lot of a cartoon series shown on German (European?) TV a few years ago: "Als die Tiere den Wald verließen"! A forest was lumbered, I think, and a group of very different animals had to stick together to find a new home. That story was really moving, and I simply *adored* the fox, who led the group, lol ;-) Very well done.

I think it sounds fun. Devlin and co can invent their own Pet Friendly airline!! Rather than Dog Fancier's Association or Cat Fanciers Association it could be a PET Fanciers Association giving a wide variety of pets to play off of. Of course the poor iguana would NOT like all the kitties wanting to "play" with his tail. A pot bellied pig, some rats, parrots, cats, dogs, guine pigs, maybe even a pony - and dare I say it? - a tarantula??? eeeeeewwww!!!

I could just imagine my Yoshi in such a situation. Imagine the most sniveling cat voice you can:
"What do you mean kill it? It might bleed on me and get my fur all dirty. Besides, isn't it time for my pedicure?"

Yeah. Some big tough 25 pound Maine Coon I've got...

An iguana and a tarantula, eh? More hidden references for us to pick out of a movie. LOL
