Greetings. I'm Curtis and I'm a High School Senior living in Edwardsville Kansas. I am highly involved in my school's Video Production department and have recently been accepted into John Brown University where I'm going to study video production as a career.

I'm a HUGE Mechwarrior fan. I've played the PC games and read the books. Once I was dead set on going into video production as a career, I decided that I would make a mechwarrior movie. Now I have learned that you beat me to it!!!!! You jerk!!!!! (Just kidding).

Anyway, I have some REALLY good ideas for this production (I promise) is there anyway I could get ahold of you personnaly?

Thanks, Mr. Delvin!!

My email is sizz0@hotmail.com

Cool. I've played the original computer game, and "Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries" for my PC.

I love to get a heavy mech, and just trick him out in Machine guns (you'd be surprised how effective an 85+ ton mech is at close range with 15 or more machine guns :]

Hi my name is Brent and I am a battleTech fan (MechWarrior for the gamers). I think the idea of a battletech movie is great and i get that u need to make it in the new time line, but have u thought of makeing a prequil from one of the original books like the BLOOD OF KERENSKY, LEGACY OF JADE PHOENIX TRILOGY, WARRIOR TRILOGY, or the TWILIGHT OF THE CLANS. I think all the original tech fan will agree with me on this one that doing a movie is great idea but u should make a prequil from one of the sets of books I mentiond. But if u are going to do that than falow it to the word and (this gose for all pasible movies) fallow the 'Mech blueprints and name them right(eg, claners say Timber Wolf not Mad Cat). Thanks for your time.

I've been a fan of BattleTech for many years.

When I started playing, there were no Clans and FASA was still alive.

To whoever writes a script for such a movie, I would like to offer some advice.

1) Plot. The BattleTech Universe has a EXTREMELY rich canonical history. It's rich and it has the three major elements the bards have loved to use in writing their stories: Whiskey, Women and War. Please keep it in mind when writing. Also, I would rather pay for a movie that has a great story, even if it sacrificed some of the "wiz-bang" graphics.
2) Ben Affleck. Don't... Just... Don't. 'Nuff said.
3) 'Mechs. As Brent mentioned before, the 'Mechs, tanks, aerospace fighters and other vehicles have names and very distinct designs. The Technical Manuals have been out for years and make a great resource. Please use them?

That's all I can think of for now. Thanks for listening.

Denali

Hi, I'm a fan of the Mechwarrior/Battletech universe as well. I echo Denali's concern about attention to the history of that universe as well as the feel of the universe. (Its not just about the 'Mechs - there's the rabid partisan factionalism, patriotism, and the lack of unilaterally evil factions - its hard to paint one faction as the archtypical badguy without fundamentally altering the faction.) I'm not suggesting you nitpick over details and minutia that only fans of the game would notice.

My understanding is that the story focuses on the lives of a few Republic citizens as the old patriotic flames rekindle. It would be consistent with the MW universe that the story heroize them but recognize the appeal of the opposing forces. The test of combat proves the fervor of their incompatible convictions. They meet in combat and come away realizing there is more than one side and even their own is not completely "right." However, they cannot live with the way of life the other group espouses and so they are destined to continue the struggle until there is no one left to pick up the torch.

have any of you battletech fans ever been to the big simulation center in Chicago? I wanted to go there and to G-fest a few years back, but never made it.

Please have the Mad Cat(Timber Wolf),Atlas,Catapult,Daishi(Dire Wolf), and Vulture(Mad Dog) mechs in the movie! Also other well know and powerful mechs! Don't put in mechs that only 10% of Battletech or mechwarrior fans know about. The names in () are their Clan names which mean their Clan mechs salvaged by the Inner sphere.

I'll add my vote (to every other Battletech fans) that the canon of the BT universe is extremely dense and should give anybody making a film all the info they could ever wish to make the film surpass (IMHO) even the Star Wars franchise. It will however also pose just as many problems for you guys because it has fanatic fans now, as apposed to after the movie. Most expect to be dissappointed a bit, but if it doesn't generally fit the bill... If Spider-man fans can take him shooting webs out of his hands, then we can let a little slip, too.

Some of my suggestions to Dean Delvin:
The climax should be Tukiyyid. It is the single most important thing in battle tech. The movie should revolve around the problem of rebuilding Star League and who should do it etc...

Email me Dean!! sizz0@hotmail.com

HAHAHAHA!!! BT FANS FLOCK TO THESE DISCUSSIONS!! SHOW YUOR SUPPORT!! btw I have been talkign about this idea of a movie for about 5 years. So here are some things I want not screwed up for the movie. Whiel I can only hope yuo see this, I trust that when yuo say this is a passion project you are a fan, and if yuo are a fan I trust yuo would nto screw this up. Also look at stackpoles new MWDA book, its awesome! And please include clanners. While most of my postings are for just plain BT MWDA is good too!
Posted 10-01-2002 at 16:07

I think that a movie combining all aspects of battletech(infantry, elementals, mechs and aerofighters) showing struggles in BT history and future giving a lot of action and effects with cockpit views and multiple missions. Showing stuff relative to the BT universe(Hall and meetings of the khans, yes for the love of god or whoever you believe include the clans it would disapoint everyone especially clan supporters, yes we do number quite large, none of this BS where we go in the past when they didn't exist! seems like an out of way thing to say we don't like clans so no way they'll ever get in any new upcoming sequels or prequels and no way they are popping in here ). How about the battles with comstar and the IS in the first invasion or preparation for and the second invasion? A lot of mechs! a lot of diferent mechs and elementals and infantry and aerotech fighters. I talk to Mechwarriors and me and all of them agree that any movie would be the greatest idea for a film industry not only would we be able to see our mechs in full mode going at it with large sound effects and feeling like we are in the action but we like to finally envision half of the things in the books that have no pictures and it would be ever soo entertaining. Make it a slightly introducing plot too so we don't scare off those who not know a thing like Exodus road in Twilight of the Clans it introdused so explainginly but yet not a instruction book that I knew everything on the Clans by the end and when I reread it I did not say this is boring at the parts where some customs where explained(A paragraph at most to explain but it was so like not treating yuo like a total idiot that yuo learned really quickly).Plenty of action would be nice too but please for everyones sake(nothing against trekkies but) not some movie like star trek where there are good guys and bad and only bad die and all good guys are magicaly saved! with no consequences(nod to exodus road about trents escape) but where this is war there are angles to the stories and they flip 360 degrees and back again and all over the map showing the war of the future(and the clans war was not messy and it was honorable and better be showed that way, don't want any clan mechs picking off civies for fun, even though there were times not like IS,or shooting IS in the back) and how each person fights for diferent reasons and if they are evil don't become totally sadistic(though some are ok), gotta want people walk out of that movie theater going I like the IS and the other going I like the Clans and such, not one sided war is never one sided. Plenty of their techs though want to see the total BT future(space battles aerotech strafing runs mechs and their advantages and disadvantages and all that). How about some repair bay shots showing myomer and repairs and stuff(no little pens that magically repair things ubt what we have now tools that pull armor off and paint jobs and all that).Keep to the story don't want to see any young spry Nova Cat Khans running around being around 20 years old(unless after the strike by Victor Davion). And I can't stress it enough but not only centered around the IS like only a brief period where the Clans and the main character fight and they disapear for a very long time(the rest of the movie!!!!!) they met a lot and thats one sided. Naval battles? with warships and jumpships and sropships and seiges with plenty to cinematic graphics of explosions and all that. Diferent of everything not only one type of Warship or Mech or aerotech or infantry or elemental.Jump jets are neat .Well thats it for now, lol.Sorry about all that but all of us have had a lot of time to wish and think and want and when I have time to think I think a lot!Frag ya later!

Warraven
P.S. For all those that disagree I understand and all those trekkies out there I know yuo number much but there were things that dont need to happen again, I watch it sometimes and some of the new ones and trust me if yuo keep yuor eyes open you'll see what I'm talkign about, kinda like full house everyone is fine and hugs at the end, arrrgggg

Posted 10-01-2002 at 16:11
I have made soo many enemies and soo many people pissed off for havign to read that.My apoligizes but I have seen it happen too many times to good scripts and ideas and games where it is socialized(my term for ruining something because other things in the same genre or like it are used as a framework and ends up screwing up the others greatness and uniqueness).See ya all later.

Warraven
P.S.Apoligize for the message but it must be said by someone to prevent all of us to look like little children playin pac-man and acting like they are pac-man and saying thats Phat or thats tight like we are cool, no we must not turn into that, yuo hear all those trekkie jokes on TV?

Posted 10-01-2002 at 16:19
lol, I always tihnk of things after I post, like Seinfeld, lol.Well stuff fro mthe remebrance and quotes that lift the hairs on the back of yuor neck and make yuo think he or she is right and that fits in so well that it is cool(the opening to pitch black was cool, something like that with those catchy endings and thinking things).Don't get me wrong I like action and stuff but a strong story line helps all action and gives meaning. And please in space there wasn't sound in space, like rams going from hectic inside to nothingness and stuff, I liked that, and raiding parties floating into space and when you see them its silent and peaceful thne they land and a big can of Whoop@$$ is opened up,lol.See ya all later, probably post again later I want a BT movie!!!! please make it!!!!!!!

WARRAVEN
War is in Warrior,
It is no coincidence that
War is in Warrior.
WARRAVEN
(Tell me that at a funeral or something would not give yuo that creepy feeling, lol)

Its a lot to read but they are good dieas and I'm sticking to them!! I discovered Battletech when I was 14, I'm 30 now and still have not seen a single movie about Mechs and Mech combat that could even hope to be described as "yeah - not bad...but..."

The only moving images I've ever seen that had the right feeling is the opening sequence of the PC computer game 'MechWarrior 2'. Please have a close look at that and capture what made it good.

This is a rare opportunity to shine and honour the rich history of Battletech, otherwise it will just join the ranks of 'Dungeons and Dragons', 'Judge Dredd', 'Starship Troopers', and 'Highlander 2', (and there's plenty more) where, well... they got the name right, but that's all...

Mr. Devlin--
Good luck with the MechWarrior effort--especially the financing. If I had a spare $100 million sitting around I'd definitely front it for the film. Would love to hear the pitch meetings--"It's 'Starship Troopers' crossed with 'Pearl Harbor' with a dash of 'Star Wars' thrown in--but it will have a look and feel all its own!"
Hope you can pull together a funding consortium that will stay together, a cheap but good production crew, and a marketing team that know how to tap into an established fan and genre base.

hi all, now Raven you are right on so many items but their is one that stands out as wrong. clan invation, yes it was honerabul... in the first part. less we forget turtle bay(make a great scane)and Lutheran(in fact it stats that the clans in the renewed invation disregarded all biding rights and rituals in combat. but clans NEVER EVER ATTACKED CIVILIANS! and also BT is NOT TREK the univers it dirty meassy their is no good vs. evil. its one side with one way of life vs. a nother side with a diferant way of life and people DIE! no continues no tryagen no new medical procedures game over, the end good bye! and BT is not bucherd to death like trek and star wars(but their will be lots of people will line up) and for the love of blakemake it falow the laws of battletech and make some axe/hachet men(i like close combat). why beause i dont want a nother starship trooper(book much better) of spawn(movie not dark anughe and dident folow the story line) thanks

p.s. make a clan invation prequil!

o ya make the space sceans 3d(in the sence that not all ships have to be the same way, botem always down) like in the twilight of the clans in the huntress system. those were the coolest navel battle "sceans" in all the books, how they discribed roleing the ship to expose new armor.

p.s. make mechs not abale to move as well as humans becous of the limits metal, becous i dont want to see a mech move like a mobile sute. ok thanks

I disagree with Brent in that Mechs shouldn’t be able to move with agility because of their mechanical limitations. Since a Mech uses synthetic muscles to move its limbs (instead of gears, hydraulic pistons, or servos) its actions would appear very natural and life like. However, although their movement would appear natural, heavier Mechs, like Assault Mechs, would move some what slower and with less agility then lighter Mechs. Also, because of its size a Mech would appear to be moving slower then something smaller. For example, if a person standing next to a Mech quickly moved his arm 50 degrees and the Mech moved its arm 50 degrees with the same speed it would appear that the person is moving his arm faster than the Mech, even though in reality they are moving at the same speed. The effect is due to the fact that the Mech’s limb is much larger than the person’s and so when it moves 50 degrees it has to cover a larger distance then the person’s limb. Therefore, Mechs would move like humans, but due to their size and weight some would move or appear to move more slowly.

ok Adrian i read battletech i know how mech move yes it's not gears and pistons and it can move much like a human BUT armor can not move like skin. skin can give and streach, but armor (any tipe can not). what i mean is i do not want to see any mech's solid torso twist or bend(except form battle damage, thats ok). basicly what i am saying is make sher that the armor pass throw other armor and realistick movements.

p.s. any one that agres with me please post a message and suport my ideas, or if you disagery make a counter point. thanks.

Here's the gyst:

Yes, the mechs use synthetic muscle, yes, the armor is 'unbending' (although, if you look even at medieval armor, there can be an amazing amount of joints put into the armor to allow for flexibility), however, the mechs aren't built for 'human' movement. They are built for combat, and as such, only need move as such. IE, no mech is going to tuck and roll then strafe a target, but a mech can move forward and torso twist to hit it's target.

Another argument is this: A person can hold a gun normally (with the barrel above the hand), or sideways (with the hand and barrel parallel). A mech cannot do this due to weight distribution. So, for the sake of weaponry, certain aspects of the mech (armor, joint, etc.) have to be locked into place to maintain equilibrium.
brent stewart
03-10-2003, 10:13 PM
yes thank you, thats one more for my side of the argument. BUT certain mech have moble hades with specal controls called Gantlets and wepons like axes/hachets, their is also mechs like the battle Master that can eject his wepon to have two fully arcticlat(for a mech)

now plz do not have lasers explode when they hit armor, they melt armor, the batletech books have exilent discriptions of armor melting and slidifing on the ground
He represents, the Lollypop guild (F_U_N_G_U_S)

If you *really* want to get accurate with the lasers, you would only see the flash from the muzzle and the impact on the target. No beam of light in between (real lasers aren't on the visible spectrum, so you only see them when they actually hit a particle in their path).

Also, when the laser actually hits, since it's not powerful enough to burn straight through the mech, there would still be some sparks, and there could be an explosion from an internal mechanism.

As for the hatchet thing, they are not really designed to work like a human holding a hatchet. They are heavy, and basically, the arm has to be able to lift the hatchet, then stay attached as the weight of the hatchet brings it down (keep the arm from ripping off from the force). It's nothing like G Gundam, where the mech could swing the hatchet freely, anywhich way. If anything, it's more controlled (and thusly more mechanical) than a mech arm sans the hatchet. At that point, the arm is more of a winch and pulley system, just designed to get the hatchet above the target. Gravity and the weight of the hatchet do the rest.

Oh, one other thing:

The press release says the movie is based on the MechWarrior *games*, so whilst Battletech may have a rich history and background, don't count on too much of affecting the storyline. Look at the last couple of MW games, and that's probably where 90+% of the storyline will be derived from.

03-11-2003, 10:59 AM
and a third thing ;]

Hate to bust your bubble Brent, but if you look at my first statement, it really doesn't support your argument (counters it rather).
Adrian Michaud
03-11-2003, 11:04 AM
I agree that a Mech's actions are limited by the number of joints it has, the lack of a flexible type body like humans have and its huge weight and size. Therefore, a Mech would not be able to move like a Gundam suit or an Evangelium suit. A Mech is more realistic; there is a limit to the types of actions a Mech could do. What I meant in my previous message is that a Mech's movement wouldn't be sluggish and unnatural like the robots that you see on TV or movies. Even the real robots of today are sluggish and completely unnatural in their movement, because they use gears and motors (instead of synthetic muscles) to move their limbs. Getting off the subject a bit, the problem with the inability of real robots to move effectively could soon be solved. Several different scientists, like Mohsen Shahinpoor of the University of New Mexico, are successfully developing synthetic muscles; this means that Mechs might someday become a reality.

You have Forgotten Myomer technology which allowed the mech to be created in the first place. when the Myomer cable was invented, it was much too longm for human applications, but worked in much the same way as human muscle, the Cable contacts as it is stimulated by an energy source, created by an internal fusion core.

but anyway... I NEED TO SEE WHAT MECHS ARE GOING TO BE IN THIS MOVIE!!.. if you are going to add the Mad Dog, Make sure its the origional from MW2 or MW3.. the MW4 version has stumpy arms and is less sexy.. and the SUMMONER needs its proper arms..

Mechwarrior3 is a good research basis for the real looks of the mechs (Microsoft messed it up)

If you could possibly post a list of mechs that will be included in this film, Me and my clan (CRW) would be very grateful ;)

thank you in advance,- Stuart Cutler A.K.A. {CRW}Damien

I think we all are really arguing the same thing, and what I said before was a little wrong, but I meant that I don't want to see the clans ignoring all thier rules and laws. I don't want thier leaders to be viceroy's, I don't want Clan Ghost Bear and Clan Snow Raven hating each other and I don't want to see 4 clan mechwarriors fighting with a single IS warrior. What I was pointing otu was that I just don't want them to ignore the clan rules and law(I forgot the name right now), I understand that they gave up the laws once ina while, and I understand that they don't always completely follow them. And I think the arguement on the mech piloting is really just two people arguing the same thing. You both don't want these mechs to be piloted as if they were Gundams in G gundam or have them mocked for unrealism because they do rolls and flips. You both want them to be realistically controlled like a fighter plane(joystick and pedals and all that) while still staying true to the sense of Btech(axes and hatchets). I probably won't be back here for some time, but reply anyways, I'll get back to ya later. I jsut hope the guy who's gonna make this pays attention!

Raven

Wow...what to say...I like everyone else here I'm a huge Battletech fan. I've read many of the Battletech novels (including the new Dark Age ones) and played many of the Mechwarrior games.

I guess I'd like to say (to Mr. Devlin) that I've been impressed with much of your work thus far. I'm glad someone as experienced as you got the rights to create this movie. While it's dishearting to hear the first movie will be based in the new Dark Age time frame, I do hope that you will do a good enough job to push for more movies regarding Battletech. I like many would like to see, eventually, a movie of the Blood of Kerensky trilogy, Twilight of the Clans, or anyother major event in Battletech history pertaining to the time of the Clan invasion up to the Dark Age time frame.

I would lastly like to ask that you, and your team pay particulary close attention to details concerning the Battletech Universe. I understand that it may not be pratical to get everything perfect, but remember that your dealing with a fairly old and fanaticaly followed franchise. Please don't give us a "Wing Commander," I'm sure you understand that if done right this could lead to surpassing Star Wars.

So the best of luck, and wise decision making which we all know you have.

Eidolon

Any new official news? I mean, any cast ideas, possibly the timeline it's meant to take place, what 'mechs you're looking to use or feature? Failing that, how long you estimate until you will have any of these things going on?

And if you ever want to sound out hardcore mech fans about stuff drop on by to www.mektek.net and drop by the forums.

I would just like to thank you Mr. Devlin for at the least to create a true Battletech movie. Maybe you will do like George Lucas and do a prequel to MWDA and start at the time of the StarLeague. Instead of having all Mech battles it would be nice to see also the other side of MW like the police/military infantry or ground pounders as their called. Anyways I wish someone would also make a live action series for TV with a good story line. Well I will be waiting to see what comes of all this within the next year.

BEST OF LUCK!!!

I, unlike the other posters here, haven't read up on the BT universe. Mainly because I've always just been into the PC games of MechWarrior, from MW2/MW2 Mercs up to MW4, so this won't be a very BT-oriented post. I have just one plea.

"Please, do not screw this up."

My argument for saying that is very simple: Of all the game-based movies I have seen (And I have seen a LOT of them), I am unable to name a single one apart from Mortal Kombat 1 that was actually -good-, and held true to the nature of the game.

I believe the only 'Mech film ever produced was called Robot Joxx, and while completely unrelated to any BT setting, was a movie I enjoyed. But let's look a little at a recent game-based movie. Resident Evil.

Using a -great- game as setting, the "guilty" parties have only managed to include three things true to the RE setting. The plot, the enemies, and the setting. And none of these was done well, apart from the zombies. The plotline was slaughtered for the sake of cinematic credability; They had a perfectly good plot in RE1, so why butcher it and sew it together with eviscerated parts from the plot of RE2? The result was simply a Frankenstein's Monster of a film, which many gamers reviewd as a pathetic attempt to make money on a successful game.

You have the chance to make a film based on a successful game; you are not unique in this. But what does make you unique is that you have the -entire fan base of the MW and BT communities- to help you make this film _good_.

I implore you: Do not throw that away. Listen to the community; Ask them what would make the film worthy of bearing the Mechwarrior setting. There have been fan-written stories of the BT universe that I can say are worth reading more than any top-selling book, simply because of the passion that was invested in the writing. They did not do it just to make money; they wanted to reach out and touch people's hearts and minds. I hope that this film is made in that spirit.

Best of luck, and my best wishes to anyone who takes the time to read this. Let us hope Mr. Devlin agrees with me. ^_^

/Nim

I like everyone else here was excited about the movie when I heard about it and am a huge fan of the mech universe. What I would like to know is when can we see the movie? The closest to a movie was the battletech toon that was only 13 made.

Greetings
I would just like to express my agreement with Nimwrath. If this project gets up and running, input from the CBT enthusists and online MechWarrior leagues will make all the difference. There is a hugh and loyal following for both. Also just say NO to Ben! Best of luck Mr. Devlin.
-Dezgra

Mechwarrior fans unite!! I cant belive Ive found a site with so many Fans on it! And a page on a major moviemakers site as well!! It is now 2005 and the last posts here were some time ago.
(Excpt Dezgra) I hope that this movie is still on for release. (Mr. Devlin or rep could clear that up) I am looking forward to this movie with fanatical fervor. And sincerely hope that you Mr. Devlin will create a jaw dropping movie. Not just in FX but perhaps also in plot (we got plenty) and accuracy (See above about Lasers Etc.) I have been around since the Mechwarrior2 game. And have since then gotten into the books and even downloaded the animated series. I have even (LOL) designed a simulator for use with this game. I admit that I had no idea that this was a possibility until I was surfing and out of curiosity punched in "Mechwarrior Movie" at a search engine. I have read through this forum
before and decided to post just to prove that we are still around and rooting for you.
I personally would be glad to have any part in helping this movie along (Heck Id settle to be that guy that gets fried by a maddog on the street LOL) But I know that I have very few skills that would be any use to you. So in light of this. GOOD LUCK AND MAKE US PROUD Mr Devlin!!
