There is an article about The Day After Tomorrow in the New York Times. They have an online version up on their website:

When Manhattan Freezes Over by Andrew C. Revkin, NY Times

I´m wondering why nobody says something about The Day After Tomorrow...has really nobody seen the movie?

Hey Centropoholics! Not sure I remember how to post here after lurking so long. I did see TDAT. It was very engaging to watch and to listen to. I was pleasantly surprised to be entertained - since disaster flicks aren't my thing. But I never took the film's content seriously. The theater was fairly packed and we all laughed together during numerous scenes. Was that RE's intent? I don't know.

Hello Kefla, nice to "see" you again!

I have seen the movie, sorry, I have to say, "ID4" was the best one of Emmerich. I´m afraid TDAT has too much special effects and too less story...

I've also seen it and I really liked it! I think it is great. I don't know.

Hi again, Kefla! Which were the scenes you laughed about? I guess that is somewhat tragic for RE, I have a feeling that was not intended... ;-)

Hi Trina. Watching the film was an odd experience in that sense. In real life, I'm seriously concerned about global warming and many other environmental issues. In the theater, however, TDAT was apparently accepted as another summer blockbuster film designed to entertain.

To answer your question: People laughed at the irony of hoards of Americans crossing the border into Mexico - a complete reversal of the current situation. Also amusing was the portrayal of the Vice President (who looked a lot like VP Cheney) and the idea that he forgave debt in order to make arrangements for the American refugees.

My SO and I were surprised at how good the film was, though. The FX were dazzling. It left an impression that lasted.

What were people's reactions in your theater?

Oh, I see! Those scenes were perhaps even meant to amuse... ;) - although I'm not so sure about the scene with the Vice President... lol ;)

I guess reactions here were similar, although I think it hasn't produced so much laughs, probably because people here are not so close to those situations (like crossing the border to Mexico and other things). But I also found the special effects really impressive, and I guess people in the theater were stunned by them just as I was...

This movie rocked! Not only was it great entertainment, but it will help open the world's eyes to the seriousness of global warming, and the fact that we as humans worldwide have a commitment to future generations to do what we can to make sure events portrayed in this movie don't make the headlines.
