Excuse me, but lately I've been trying to gather information about if there's going to be or not a sequel to the American Godzilla film that Dean and Ronald directed.

I personally liked it VERY much. The monster is just beautiful.
Well I finally found info that said now Dean and Ronald are no longer in Centropolis (am I wrong?) and they founded Electric Entertainment, so well now I'm here (I guess I'm going to register an account after posting this).

My questions would sum up in...
Is Sony the owner of the CGI Godzilla program?, or Electric Entertainment?.
If it belongs to Electric Entertainment, should I have any hope to see a sequel? =)

I think that's all. I hope to receive an answer, specially to the question: Is there going to be a sequel (or plans about making one)?.

Best Wishes,
Soulice Pentalis.

Good questions. First, I left Centropolis and started Electric Entertainment. Roland still owns and runs Centropolis. Godzilla is owned by TOHO in Japan and the US Godzilla designs and character are owned by Sony. I do not know if Sony plans to do any sequel with the American Godzilla or not. I have no plans to be involved in any such sequel.

I hope that answers your questions. Thanks for asking.

-Dean Devlin

Allow me to ellaborate further:

Sony allowed their license to Godzilla expire last year. This obviously does not bode well for a sequel. One was written (has nothing to do with Centropolis though), and even *I* approached Sony about working on the sequel. There was no interest at the time.

With Godzilla officially on a 10 year hiatus, it's possible another company will swoop in and grab the rights (depends on how Peter Jackson's "King Kong" does), but it's doubtful we'll ever see an actual sequel to the Centropolis made Godzilla 98.

Thanks you very much for the replies, I actually didn't expect to receive them so fast (with further elaboration included!), and one by Devlin himself.

I feel, perhaps one of the strongest problems with the movie was just the title, and nothing more. Many fans of the japenese Godzilla were outraged by this movie (because it wasn't "their Godzilla"). And some people which fell in love with the reptile pictured in this movie (Godzilla 1998), probably didn't want it to be mixed with the japenese Godzilla too; you can count me into that group. I, very personally must say, I would have given this reptile her own name, to let it have her own identity (which already has); I love that character, exactly as you designed it, it is beautiful by itself (independently of any criticisms which could be made to the movie as a movie). Despite any comment anybody could do about that, I'm sincerely grateful to all the persons who made this movie possible and gave life to this character, made it real; it is hard to explain, but it has been something important and nice to have during 7 years of my life. That's obviously the reason why I'd like to see a sequel, to see more of this... how would I call it?, G98 (In my best try to give a name with no meaning except acronymal) =)

Perhaps I should keep practicing drawing and start making some artwork to fill my desire to see more of this beast which I deeply esteem, and upload it of course, I can't be that greedy ;)

Once again, my most sincere thanks for replying my message.

Best Wishes,
Soulice Pentalis.
