Went out to the drive-in last night for the all-niter feature. Got to see Shrek, Evolution, and some Danny DeVito movie that we left 20minutes into, cuz it was boring. ;-)

I was actually rather disappointed by Evolution. Being an Ivan Reitman film, I was hoping it would at least be funny like Ghostbusters was. What I found instead was a movie which couldn't decide if it wanted to be serious, funny, or scary. So it ended up being a half-assed attempt at them all.

I think they should went with the comedy angle and pushed it to the limit. Or maybe Duchovny just can't DO comedy. Dunno. Something was missing. When you have Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd and that other guy together in Ghostbusters, it didn't matter what the plot was. Those three were FUNNY together.

By trying to be somewhat serious, their scientific theories were lame and contrived. Pat would roll her eyes at it. hehehe (Well, SOME things seemed feasible, but then the amoeba with a rectum....well, that seemed kinda phoney. And they didn't play it up enough for the comedy to take effect.)

The language was too harsh for it to be a kids' movie, so it was supposed to appeal to the older kids or adults. ehhhh. Boring. ;-)

Shrek was far better. Man, those computer animations are getting more and more realistic/lifelike all the time!

Yes they are. In fact, and I'm sharing a big secret here, I myself am just an amazingly lifelike computer simulation program.

F.U.N.G.bot 2000 LIVES!

Well WE thought it was great. :P

The wife didn't want to bother with it, she thought it would be lame, but laughed as hard as anyone else in the theater.
I particularly like the bit in the shopping mall.

And Fungus? We knew that already.
Pretty convincing overall, but once in a while, you get all pixelly and that gives away the optical effect

Well Forget SHREK! The Ultimate Computer Generated movie is coming FINAL FANTASY!!! Oh the graphics in this film are amazing, astonishing, just plain overwhelming. What is even better the story was written and directed by one of Japan's finest writers, as well as game guru of the Final Fantasy series. This film looks really good. I also want to see Tomb Raider....

It's unbelievable what those digital artists can do...

This for example is the head of an old man made with Softimage by a guy from Sweden.

Made by Ulf Lundgren.
His works are awesome!

http://www.lost.com.tj/Ulf/

My questions would have to be -

1) What did he start with? A photo, or drawn from his mind?

2) How long did it take him to create this? IOW, is it cost-effective to do an entire movie with this clarity?

Pretty awesome though! Actors, beware. ;-)

My friend Vince is in Evolution. He's standing next to Duchovny in some section. I haven't seen it yet. Cute little Italian guy. Since he's about my height (extra midget size) he'll probably come up to about 5 inches above David's elbow. (If memory serves, he's about a foot taller than me...)

I agree with you Sher. They guy has a hard time with comedy. But he is funny when he's trying NOT to be funny.

OK, I finally got to see Evolution. I finally got to see my friend Vince IN Evolution. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. They just didn't pick the best actors for it.

I loved the kid from Dude Where's My Car. Yes, I like that movie. Call me a sick little monkey but I like that movie.

David D is not one of my favorite actors.

If you get it via Netflix it's an ok movie. I recommend multiple watchings as it got better long about the third time I saw it.

Ironically, that's our next movie. We just saw "A Knights Tale". Interesting. A modern "underdog makes good" story set in medieval times. I thought the musical cues were funny though :]

I did see Evolution. It wasn't a bad scifi movie, but dagnabit, you can just TELL it was written by a couple of guys, probably whilst drinking beers.

I was getting so sick of the "ice queen/she needs a good..." crap. So incredibly juvenille...
and then to top it off, they save everyone, but instead of getting their thank yous/congratulations, they hijack a firetruck so they can 'do it'. Ugh...
