Well, the solstice has come and gone. Happy summer everybody (for those of you in the northern hemisphere, that is.) Now we get to look forward to the days getting progressively shorter. *sigh*

On the flipside, summer's just 6 months away for you kids down under. ;o)

What a way to ring in the first day of summer though. 'Twas a nice warm 32 C yesterday. Bright, sunny, humid, hot. Of course, just HAD to wake up to a rainstorm this morning. It's humid again today, and already I see the clouds building.

Storm season! ;-)

They've been getting their @$$es handed to them by storms the last coupla weeks.

A week or so ago a Tornado bounced over my Aunt's house in Goehner then went on to beat up a farm Implement dealership in Seward.
(Anhydrous Ammonia anyone? They're STILL cleaning THAT up...)

Sher, it seems a little more than 32C. Angillas, All told, SC's a pretty good place. Yes, there have been a few select days where I cursed the day I started my tenure here, but that very well could have been anywhere, another time, any other place.
Our state bird is the Carolina Wren, the state flower is the Yellow Jessamine, We entered the Union in 1788. In 1619, Charles I gave a large patent to Sir Robert Heath to be called Province of Carolana, From "Carolus," Latin name for Charles. The state motto is Dum Spiro Spero (While I breathe, I hope) The capital is Columbia and I'm proud to say we have an excellent Gov. in Hodges. He gets things done, and doesn't take crap off of others trying to slip in outside agendas. Hopefully, he'll see to it that our new lottery $ will be used primarily for education. If so, the people will stay behind him.
The mountains get a little snow in the winter, the lowcountry hardly any at all. There's lots of waters, rivers, coastline, and horses.
The work ethic is great, The Patriot was filmed here, and we have 2 dinosaurs.( if you count alligators and lizard man)
Occasionally we get a hurricane. The majority just brush on by, but one in particular, Hugo, was quite a memorable one. I had worked that day,the storm was approaching, and a lot of people had called saying they wouldn't be able to make it in to work on the next shift. I volunteered, telling them I needed to go home for about an hour to batten down the hatches. I turned all the horses out in the pasture away from the barns and told them to brace themselves and put their butts to the wind. Self preservation told them to lie flat down on the ground with their necks outstretched, which they did. Back to work I went and Hugo slammed us. I was operating an overhead crane pouring crucibles of molten aluminum as roofing panels began falling all around us. Crossing over in front of large access doors, the wind caught me and shoved me about 30 yards. It was a strange feeling, as if someone was running behind you pushing you along. Shortly after that, a tornado spawned by the storm popped the side of the building; down came 4ft steel I-beams and about 800 ft of the wall. At that point, everyone was kinda like diving for cover. Rain, wind, leaves and debris were all flying sideways through the building. Eventually, about 4am it all subsided. It shut us down for a little while, but we got everything back on line, up and running in half the projected time. We did dew ete! "Farmers with pitchforks" ;-) Ha, take that, Hugo.
All family was fine and when I arrived home the next morning to check on the horses, one mare had a small 4" scratch on her side, where a limb had blown by. Thank God!
Enough venting....take care

KaMIKaZe, while I breathe, I hope to see you morph into a toadstool one day. ;-)very good, fungi, that would be better than dum turky turky, as far as windshields go. Speaking of stutters, I knew a man who lived near the skinny dip rock where *you* lathered, who had a stutter, and he overcame it by speaking fast, extremely fast. Amazing how people will adapt! Yes Sheri, it was all quite interesting. I have a friend who has a farm outside of Charlotte, and they got as much damage as we received here.(and thats a 3 hr. drive) It was a beeeeg one.
