What do you think? Should we set our sights for a permanent base on the moon -- which could lead us to a manned mission to mars?

Or, should we first fix what we have here first before venturing onward?

Also, who else thinks that NASA's abandonment of the Hubble Telescope further proves the money was mis-spent? Bad enough the Hubble was launched with a defect and we actually had a mission to correct the lens, and now they want to scrap the project? Did I miss something here?

-=JAG!

I would say if they can barely keep a space station functioning, we'd better stay "grounded" for awhile before thinking of putting people on the moon. ;)

For the record, they are going to fix Hubble. At current, it is the best up there for pics and all.
As far as moon or other stations, I dunno. When I was in Astronomy some people were talking of options as far as living on other worlds. In the end, it is pretty stupid. It is way out of any realistic budgit or time schedule. The easiest fix by far is to curb human population, even if that means governmets stepping up and telling certain religions to stop the stupidity of not teaching the use of contriceptions. And of course to begin to both clean up the planet and stop messing it up further. Every time I hear solutions that take us away from this planet and the absolute mess we have made of it it just pisses me off. You can only run from your troubles so long. For us as a species, even if we could make Mars habitable, it would only last so long. It is just stupid...we have a perfectly habitable planet right here, and we are hell bent on overpopulating it and tearing it up, and then chasing aftter dreams elsewere so we don't have to face the music. Just plain stupid if you ask me.
