I believe July 18th is the release date for the long awaited Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within movie. Many film makers are looking to this film to be something of a break-through because for the first time, fully computer generated/realistic people are going to be used. If this film is a success, do you think that many more projects that were recently impossilbe, are now going to actually turn into film? Do you think this film is going to influence sci-fi films for the future>

I think it opens a whole new doorway. Although, it isn't really all that different from traditional animation. Just a little more realistically drawn. There is some touch of...what's the word I'm looking for....impersonality?...to computer generated characters though. They don't have the soft CHARACTER that animation gives. Something doesn't have to be photorealistically portrayed to be effective. Kinda like art.

Time to focus a little less on "Ooh, look at what we can do!" and get back to doin it. If I see one more "Matrix" like suspended turnaround, I'll puke. hehehe

Well the thing is with Final Fantasy is that traditional animators strayed away from "cloning" people onto the screen. Never before has there been animated characters who resemble life like people in every imaginable way. Well look at the difference between Toy Story 2 and Final Fantasy, while one focused much on a cartoon toy world, FF:SW is creating a literal our world, but completely on the computer. Very cool. very cool indeed.

Hey Dean - I hear you're working on some "projects" with Glen Morgan & Jim Wong... They're Loyola Alums like me - Saw them at a softball game recently - What a coincidence huh? Small world... Any word on what may be a go? I know their busy editing The One right now. But I'm sure you all have your hands in many fires...
