Hey Dean, are you a Jaws fan? I ask this because after watching Jaws for the third time in my life, I spied a couple of lines and scenes that Gino seemed to pay homage to. Example....In Jaws an character exclaims, "We are going to need a bigger boat!" after he sees the massive shark. Also the boat tugging scene is very similar to the one in Godzilla. Another scene is where the fisherman gets pulled in, when the shark nabs his line. Are these coincodences, or a little homage to the titanicular fish that scared so many people?

JLR,

Good eye! Yes, those were direct JAWS references in the movie. As a big Spielberg fan, I always try to pay homage to the master.

There are far more Spielberg references in ID4 than in G98. Did you find them all?

-Dean Devlin

There are a lot of hidden references to Jaws,in many different movies.Quick little shots that most people overlook.I remember (I couldn't tell you what movie but for some reason Godzilla is stuck in my brain) where someone says that"We are going to need a bigger gun???"
Am I right?
Well, anyhow.In Dean's movies you generally need a bigger EVERYTHING!Bigger gun,boat,"Arc Attack"(I'm sure)..a bigger shoe.

One of the Spielberg references in ID4 is the welcome helicopter that the military sends out with the series of flashing lights. This is like the ending scene of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Of course, the twist on the scene is when the Alien ship responds by blowing the hell out of our welcoming party.

I WAS going to say it was a "Guy thing", but I was afraid I may get in trouble for stereotyping men!
Aside from wanting to blow up everything Mr Devlin seems to have a penchant for making everything humongous.
Things that make you go ...HMMMMMMM!!

What is also funny is at the end of Jaws we hear the death call of a dinosaur from an old B-dinosaur movie, and infact this death call was the same death call that Steven used for the end sequence of his Duel. He felt that both movies were so close to being a like, that he had to pay some homage somewhere.

Well Dean, I did catch Jeff Goldblum's, "Must go faster, go go go!" However, now that the beans are spilt, I'll have to "force" myself to watch ID4 again. As if I have to force myself to watch any Centrop....er Electric-Ent. movie hehe

I know this is an old message and probably no one will even know this one I post is here. But JLR called Godzilla GINO. I have always totally disaggreed with that name. "Godzilla in name only" doesn't make since, because it IS Godzilla just reborn and new.
I'm babbling here but I just saw that and thought I'd post a note on that. Heehee.
I think that's what they call him in Italy.
