btw, this is a 50% size reduced gif of what it looks like. Of course, the actual vector logo has nice crisp edges :]

OH yes, just for the record (so nobody around EE's offices think I have a spy or was snooping, I'll explain exactly what I did:

I went to the ee.org email site, saved the background. Dragged it into Paint Shop Pro (for really little things, Photoshop takes too much time to open :], turned the gray into black, saved it as a PSD file.

Then I opened Adobe Streamline (it's old, the AI files it saves are version 5-5.5! and adobe doesn't support it anymore [I think AI 10 has a tracer, but I only have ai 9), and traced it, viola! (I trace my lineart in streamline before I color it. Gives it a nice smooth line edge!)

Heyyy, you gotta teach me how to do that. I have a lot of line art illos I get asked to do, and the lines have to be smoooth but they never scan that way. :-\ The world of Vectors and ray-tracing are foreign to me.

Sheri: Ray tracing is 3D stuff. Vector is a 2d format :]

Vector is easy to explain:

just as the name implies, a vector graphic is actually plotted coordinates, or points, rather than pixels. This allows you to reduce or enlarge a vector graphic infinetly, with 0 loss in quality.

Ray tracing is a bit more complicated to explain :]

Yes, I know the difference between vector and rastor. But as to how to make a rastor image into vector.....dunno how to do to that. Well, aside from manually tracing with a top layer using the line tool. Then deleting the original layer. But that's a pain in the arse. Is there an easier way?

adobe streamline. Even Corel has "Corel Trace".

Thing is, it works best on black and white line art, or art with cartoony colors (ie easily seperateable colors). It doesn't work well on colors with subtle gradients or whatnot.

See the clip art characters? I hand drew them, scanned, converted them, colored them in photoshop with solid, blocky colors, then converted them again. They are now clipart :] Resizable to any degree.
