Dean, I just wanted to drop a quick note to thank you for getting a movie like Eight Legged Freaks made and released.

I love the old 50's monster films. Especially Tarantula, Them, and of course Creature from the Black Lagoon. I took my brother and younger sister to ELF on the opening day, and we all loved it! No matter how it does theatrically, I am still hoping for a great DVD with loads of extras. It is definitely a movie I will be adding to my collection.

I know that you get people all the time trying to plug their scripts to you. What I'd like to do is plug an author's book to you to look at (if you haven't already). It is called MEG. It's by Steve Alten. It was a best seller, and is exactly the kind of genre movie that I would love to see you and Roland do. Anyway, not to go overboard, it is a book about the Megaladon prehistoric sharks that could reach 60+ feet. Basically, one has survived in the deep water trenches of the ocean and of course it escapes. This book reads like a film and has some incredible scenes and is a great read. I read on Steve Alten's site that it used to be optioned by Disney until they backed out of making it.
There you have my shameless plug for a great potential book to film suggestion.

Oh, and did you see on the www.filmforce.com site that they had a script review (very favorable) of the Carrier. The thing is that it said in their article that this will by your directorial debut. Is there any truth to that? We would all love to see you doing as great a job behind the camera as you do getting those cameras rolling as a producer.

Meg is already in the works (has been for awhile now). (not by Mr. D though)

Btw, I heard Dreamworks is associated with this, so you may be right about Disney backing out, but I believe it's still under options by somebody.
Steve Allen's website gives regular updates on the film issue and he is a driving force behind the making of the film (he would be). You can even sign a sort of petition asking for the movie to be made and a MEG screensaver features screenshots from what could be the movie. If you like pictures of a giant shark movie that doesn't exsist....www.steveallen.com is your site.

/alec

Thanks Alec. I actually go to his site quite often, and have singed the petition. He is still shopping the rights around now that Disney let their option lapse. I suggested the idea to Dean because I think that he is the kind of producer that could do this kind of film justice for the big screen.
I really would love to see MEG made into a film, but I would like to see it done right.

Justin

You go there too? Funny we haven't met. Anyway... (Alec nods vividly) Yes, I agree. Someone like Dean might pull it off, but only if he let's me look at the scrip first (vicious grin). And if Roland is too busy, how about David Twoy? I'm sure Alten (yes, with a 't', woe me) wouldn't mind.

/Alec

"I am the author! I outrank you!"
--Mel Brooks
