I knew you when - and we met on a BBS. How interesting to see you have one of your own. I actually have my own film festival which will run for 4 days in September. I was trying to find you to see if you would be on my film festival advisory committee. I mean, I have corporate sponsors and everything. Not to mention, I've just missed you so much and Amie and Adam and everybody - and have vicariously enjoyed your success!

Hoping to hear from you,

Deborah Osment (you knew me as "Ryan")

Hi Deborah. Could you give us some info on the Film Festival (& website address)?

I just decided to have this festival a week ago so my web designer has not yet gotten back to me with the website address. I judged a film festival last weekend and I've been to a bunch of them with my own films and I decided I wanted to have one where no idiot who's never made a film in their life can be a snot to a filmmaker. I also decided I was tired of seeing angst and suffering on the screen and wanted to have a film festival that is basically nothin' but a party. I fled Hollywood a year ago and now live in a tiny village in Michigan which is known for its winemaking and our annual Wine and Harvest Festival. So I got the theatre and went to the winery and they're sponsoring it as is AIFFP and you get a dollar off if you dress as a pirate. I am showing nothing but comedies and movies that make you feel good - such as "Standin' in the Shadows of Motown" if I can get it. I have a lot of successful friends and I think we're going to have nothin' but wine, movies and a good time. Comedies can be long, short, old, new - I don't care.

Come on down!

Wine (or beer) and filmmaking have always gone together. hehe

In Australia, they have 'Tropfest' where they show short films that don't contain a story. It seems that the entrants are the snots you mention.

Unfortunately, every man and his dog registeres a production company. I had one US company want to co-produce with an aussie company. There are about 1600. I got a rude awakening when I found only 48 actual companies, and out of that, 7 that had actually been involved in international filmmaking.

Most of the rest are companies in name only and have never put anything on paper or film. These are the film school grads.

Let me know when you've got it together so I can add it in the newsletter. (this way you'll get entrants from Russia, canada, the UK, India etc. If that's what you want.)

I'm not sure what you mean by "together." The theatres are locked, the sponsors are locked. If what you're looking for is a contact, how about this "moviemakers@leapfroginet.com"? That belongs to one of my production entities which is already taking submissions for two television series. People should reference the "St. Julian's Film Fest" so we can channel things to the proper screener. BTW, I thought I should let Dean know that the complete duties of those on my honorary advisory committee will consist of letting me know which movie they laugh at the most. Mike, I'm going to e-mail you at your own address a copy of an article that ran last Friday about me and what I'm up to.
