OK..I saw a pic of Dean Devlin...does he wanna be in pictures?

Seriously...is this one of y'alls sites, or what?

And what is Dean's pic doing in there?

Also, don't we have to be in unions or someting to be seriously considered, or have a background in acting? I am quite curious....

Nah, we have several people looking for non-union actors too. One of our most active casting agent is from Fox looking for people for reality shows they have. It's not JUST movies that this casts for, it's for a variety of media related acting jobs.

Really? So us peons could actually sign up.... hehehe

That's pretty cool... Electric-Entertainment does seem unique with regards to its willingness to interact as well as help people both trying to get into the industry and those just curious about it. I was talking to a friend about just this not too long ago here in Houston. We both agreed that this site seems the only of its kind, in which fans not only have a place to be, but can also interact with one of the best companies/Directors in Hollywood.

Yes you DO have to be in "unions or something" to be seriously considered, or have a background in acting.

It is allowable that a company take someone off the street during filming and have them as an extra for a scene, but they have to fill out a release form... this is different and worded diferently from a professional Extra's contract.

I have found (and so has SAG and Actors Equity) that most fly-by-night companies refuse to pay their crews and actors adding 'deferrment' or 'no pay' to their ads. If you see that payment is deferred, that means you won't get paid either. The rule here is if they don't pay you, or say deferral, don't bother with them.

By not being in a union like SAG or Equity, you are totally unprotected and 98% of the time will be ripped off.

Though it is preferred that you have at least some training, both the Screen Actors Guild and Actors Equity has provisions for Extras Memberships if you want to just work as an Extra. SAG has SAGExtras and you're just as protected as any SAG member, right down to your pay rates. It's the same with Equity.

Unless it's a student film, no-one recommends that anyone go for a job that calls for 100% non-union. SAG and Actors Equity have a separate agreement for student and low budget films (up to a $3 million budget.

All the legitimate mini-indie companies are Signatories with both the Writers Guild and the Screen Actors Guild. If you find a company that isn't a signatory, advise them to be. This is another way of the unions protecting their members.

If they say they don't have to be, don't touch them. If the film company or the producer is not a member of the PGA or any of the (legit) Producer's organisations (Producers Guild) don't touch them.

If you're interested, I have a list of Agencies that take Extras that are in San Diego

But Mike, some states in the USA are right to work, so, you might wind up on a non sag film. And after they moved out of my state completely (which I still have lovely stories about)all we can get here is non union shoots. When they bring a crew in, they take money away from that state and our govenor, the brother of 43, doesn't find that to be a problem.

Chris
The FOX Plant

There's an opening for you in a FungX Commercial... but your career would be very short-lived.

Chris, that maybe the 2% I was talking about. But any legit filmmaker will pay, even if they're not union. There's Indie filmmaker's grants coming out of the wazoo in the US, so there's no excuse for them not to pay.
