Dean,
I am a college student that has always wanted to make movies and has never really gotten a shot at making one. I have tons of scripts lying around, but i have no idea what to do with it. If you had any tips for me that would be great. Also i need you to answer another question of mine, which is better going to film school OR spend the money that film school costs to make a movie and try and get it put out there???

Sean,

I highly recommend going to film school. Not just for what you lear about film, but because you become in contact with others who share the dream of filmmaking. Those contacts can become inspirational for you and may benifit you down the road.

Additionally, film school is a place where you'll get real hands on experience making films. The most important thing to do, when you want to be a film maker, is to simply make films. As many as you can.

As for your scripts, show them to agents. If someone wants to represent you, then the scripts are ready to be shown. Most places, like Electric Entertainment, cannot look at a script unless it is sumbitted by an agent, so it's really important to find representation for your work. But if the work is good, it will get read.

Good luck,

-Dean Devlin

Sean,

Very few agents will take writers without a track record, but I have a list of agents that take first-timers and help get their career on path.

I would recommend, though, you take a few courses on writing with John Truby.

Alternatibely, send W.S.A.I. (mike@wsai.net) a copy of what you consider your best story/script - they can then ascertain what assistance you need, so they can put you on the right path. (they will accept email attachments)
