We're debuting the trailer right now on ww.iFMagazine.com!
As of tomorrow, the trailer will be available on www.FlyboysTheMovie.com.
Check it out. Would love to hear what you all think of it.
Thanks,
-Dean Devlin
You never cease to amaze Dean. On the movie website, the music with the planes coming out of the fog.....gives the sense being in the movie, just like all your movies.
This film already has a place reserved in my DVD collection! The storyline looks solid. Hell, just from the preview, I'm already connecting to the characters -- the effects? jaw-dropping!
Simply awesome, Dean!
Thanks for the sneak preview!!

The Arial combat special effects look stunning. However it seems that in the trailer all the German planes appear to be Fokker Dr.1 triplanes. And they all seem to be painted in the same color scheme, that of Richthofen's. This is impossible historically. Every plane in his Circus was painted with individualised colors, but only he flew the famous red plane. Also If this takes place at the begining of the war these planes weren't even in mass production yet. Even when they were they never were in such mass use.
Are these place holder graphics? Are the SFX not complete yet? Or was this done for effect to further diferentiate the Allies planes from Germans?
Just Curious,
Father Jack

Father Jack,
Well you're correct that historically, not all the Dr Fokkers were painted Red (though more than just Richthofen's had that color) and that they were in a variety of paint schemes. However, trying to follow who's who in air combat is incredibly difficult. So, like Akira Kurosawa has done in battle scenes, we made the decision to make nearly all of the German planes that color (though with different insignias) just to help make clear who's who in the air. While this is a historical cheat, I can tell you that we've screened the film for many WWI aviation historians (including Richthofen's great grand-nephew) and they've all LOVED the film and felt that this is the best and closest recreation of those air battles they've ever seen on film.
But you'll have to judge for yourself and hopefully, you'll let us know here what you thought. I hope it doesn't disappoint you.

Thank you for the reply. Your explanation makes a lot of sense. From what I saw in the trailer the movie puts you right into the middle of the frenetic nature of the combat (aerial and ground) and its understandable that a little artistic license ('Historical Cheat' sounds to harsh) is needed to avoid confusion. I have to admit that I am very much looking forward to this movie, as much from your reply as from the trailer.
Cheers,

It does look pretty good. I like how it gets "close up" with the individual planes. It's not really my usual fare (although I did enjoy the movie "Midway"), so I'll have to see about this one (my friend did drag me to "The Great Raid" last year, so potentially he may bring me along to this one this year).
I sound so supportive, don't I? :p
Seriously, I do hope it does well. I have no reason not to, even if it's not my cup of tea.
