I am looking forward to the film. However, I was amazed to receive a promotional e-mail from MGM today that asserted : "FLYBOYS, the first World War I aviation film in over 40 years..."

Excuse me. It hasn't been that long. I've been interested in WWI flying movies since I was a little boy, and I distinctly recall paying to see Corman's Von Richthofen and Brown in 1971, and the British picture Aces High in 1977. [Considering its elaborate flying sequences, I'm almost tempted to also cite Blake Edwards' 1970 musical comedy Darling Lili.]

Again, I'm looking forward to the movie. But someone should correct this.

Fair enough. However, I think MGM's PR statement is meant to be referencing movies produced by Hollywood. Corman being somewhat outside mainstream Hollywood and Aces High being a UK production. That said, you make a great point.

But Aces High was actually 1976 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075627/), which means it HAS been 30 years since the last feature film with WWI aviation. It is about time to bring back a great Hollywood Genre.
