Who would like to see Roland Emmerich's dark 1985 horror fantasy gem from his country Germany to be remade?
Well i would! i think it might have potential for an American remake as i could see Roland Emmerich co-writing and executive producing it with Guillermo Del Toro ("Pan's Labyrinth", "Hellboy", "Cronos" and "Devil's Backbone") to direct it since i think he's a visionary director and also thought "Joey" was somewhat a similar dark fairy tale like "Pan's Labyrinth" for the new title of this ideal remake of mine should be "The Secret of Joey" with New Line Cinema as the studio.
For the cast, i would like to see Ryan Reynolds as Joey's teacher, James Remar as the next door neighbor, Lucy Lawless as Joey's mother. For the ventriloquist Jonathan Fletcher i would choose either Terrence Mann ("Critters 1 & 2" and "Law & Order") or Ian Mcdiamaremed (who played Darth Sidious in Star Wars) and for the voice of the dummy i think David Bowie or William Defoe should be it's voice.
The movie should be much darker then the original movie for i think it should be either PG-13 or R-rated then the last "PG"-rated one, it could have dark subject matter and a little scary and disturbing at times. Like a dark element for example, a scene where Fletcher the dummy is at the neighborhood at some kid's house (No not Joey's) terrorizes a child at night whom is playing with his toys as the dummy makes the kid's action figures come to life to attack him then as the boy is covered in toys he falls out the window to the ground as we don't actually see him fall out to die.
Of course the film won't have any reference to any Star Wars movies like the last movie like Joey should have a LOTR poster in his room instead of a SW one and there should be an appearence by Freddy Krueger instead of Darth Vader in a sequence when one of Joey's bullies are tormented by their fears like in the original movie and Trevor Jones ("The Dark Crystal") can do the score.
Do you think the idea of a remake of this movie would work?
