Hey gang,

http://www.centropoholics.com/bbs/fmx.gif (http://www.fmx.de)

The upcoming fmx - International Conference on Animation, Effects, Realtime and Content (http://www.fmx.de) - yet again promises to become quite an event, with speakers from all around the globe meeting here in Stuttgart to discuss latest developments in the filmmaking and games industries.

http://www.centropoholics.com/bbs/Emmerich-Roland.jpg

As a very special guest Roland Emmerich will be here on Friday, May 04, 2007, 18:00 - 19:00 in König-Karl-Halle, and will be talking with longtime friend and Filmakademie head of production Thomas Lechner to give a personal view on VFX, animation and digital techniques.

Being a student of the Institute of Animation (which organizes the conference) I am also involved in fmx: I will be speaking about my work in the last semester during the Filmakademie TD presentations on Thursday and Friday, and it will be my privilege to compile and edit the most memorable visual effects scenes from Emmerich-directed movies of the past 23 years into a short 1 to 1.5 minute reel to be shown at Roland's talk on Friday.

Needless to say I'm very excited and look forward to the conference. Rita and Tina already said they'd also come to fmx on Friday to attend Roland's talk, so we'll probably meet there and have another small gathering of the German 'Holics.

Stay tuned. :)

Awesome!! Enjoy, Stefan! Take PLENTY of pics!! And of course, extend our salutations to Roland (and everyone else) on our behalf.

Keep this up, and we'll be seeing your name in Roland's movie credits. I'm still waiting for my name to appear in EE's (Janitorial Services) :D

Hey, if you get a chance to talk to Roland, PLEASE tell him I said hello. It's been almost 20 years and I haven't been able to get in touch with him since he doesn't really use e-mail.

If I get a chance I'll definitely say hello to him from all the Centropoholics, but especially from you Tim.

I've actually just finished watching GHOST CHASE for the first time. The DVD from Amazon arrived just today. I had to order the UK import, as there seems to be no German version out there. That was the only Emmerich film I didn't have yet. I really enjoyed it. Had some good laughs in it, the characters were very likeable (Good job Tim! :)), and the effects were quite nice, too.

Surely we'll be taking loads of pictures from the event.

You know, JAG, sometimes dreams do come true. ;)

Hey, Stefan! That is pretty cool! :) You're doing the short summary film for Roland's talk, wow! It will be great to see that! And I hope we'll also get the chance to see your other presentation on Friday? Where and when will it be?

I'm also kind of excited yet ;) and it will be great to meet you!

Do you know if it is a problem to take a digital camera with you to fmx when you don't have a press accreditation?

Concerning GHOST CHASE, yeah this is a great and very enjoyable movie, and as everyone might know I love it! :) *hehehe*
There is a German version (as Hollywood Monster), but probably only in VHS and not easily available anymore... I have it at home and maybe I can find a way to make a (digital) copy of it...

Hi Trina!

I have finished the trailer today, and hope the audience will applaud after seeing it to welcome Roland to the stage. At least that's the plan. ;)

My presentation on Friday is taking place at 16:00 in Kepler: Studio B (on the 3rd floor in the Haus der Wirtschaft).

It is generally not a problem to bring a camera, but for some talks and presentations it is forbidden to use it due to confidential material being shown.

So you finished the trailer, that is great news! And since we know now how we are supposed to react, we will certainly do our best! :) I guess the applause for your trailer will be certain anyway! Will it be possible to put it also on the Centropoholics site afterwards? ;)

And good luck for your own presentation, too!

fmx was a blast... again. It was the third time I took part in the conference, and hopefully there will be many more.

I wasn't really happy with my talk in the TD presentations on Thursday. The second time (on Friday) worked out much better. There were again people from DreamWorks Animation (http://www.dreamworksanimation.com) that came to us afterwards asking what we'd like to do when we were finished studying. And Peter Nofz himself (who is a Digital Effects Supervisor at Sony Pictures Imageworks (http://www.sonypictures.com/imageworks/company/bios/pnofz.html)) attended our TD presentations on Friday, too. How cool is that? :)

And then there was the Roland Emmerich interview. I couldn't talk about it before, but I actually served Roland as a student guide on Friday. It is a wonderful fmx tradition that students from Filmakademie attend to speakers that have never been to the conference before, picking them up from the airport/train station, bringing them to their hotels and to the Haus der Wirtschaft, assisting them with questions they might have and just sticking around in case they need anything. And that's what I did for Mr. E. on Friday.

My dilemma now was that I did that as a student from Filmakademie with an 'official mission', not as a Centropoholic. I didn't talk with him about the 'Holics at all. I apologize to you guys for that, especially to you Tim, and to Rita and Tina, who were here hoping for another photo with Roland. :(

I'll post some pictures from the event soon.

-Stefan

No worries, Auric, I understand the position you were in, but I'm glad you got the opportunity nonetheless!

hehehe, yeah, we do that, too! :)

The one day, Friday, Rita and I were at fmx was really great! It was very interesting to experience the atmosphere there, and to attend some of the talks, which were interesting to laypersons like us, too, as it is always fascinating to see how effects in movies were actually made.

And we were also lucky to attend Stefan's talk, who did a terrific job there! And I'm rather sure, we were not the only ones being pretty impressed by it! :) Congratulations!

I also completely understand your situation as Roland Emmerich's student guide there. We saw he had a very tight schedule, and it was almost impossible to talk to him except for trying to catch an autograph in a short lucky moment. But it was great to attend the interview with Roland - and from the first row, too, thanks to Rita, who convinced me just to take those free seats there! :) And so this was one full hour Roland Emmerich talking right in front of us about sometimes funny and always very enlightening things about Hollywood and making movies - more than I ever had in my life so far! In a word: awesome! I really enjoyed it.

The pictures Rita took are great, too. I also took some pictures, but unfortunately they are rather blurry. My camera just can't handle making good pictures indoors without flash. But I'll send you nevertheless, Stefan, when I have sorted them.

So, fmx/07 was a pretty exciting experience!
