Every couple of months this topic comes up, so here it comes again.

The Gathering.

People keep asking me about it (why me? I can't get anything done, nevermind organize a big event like this! :]

So, thoughts?

And Sheri keeps bring up LA, but seems to keep forgetting how prohibitively costly (not to mention the environmental stigma, namely the weather and the SMOG) it would be to go there. So again, I suggest forget LA, and I would also suggest a similar time frame (mid-autumn, roughly Late October whereabouts).

I'd like to discuss this more in this thread, or in the 'holics mailing list though, because the talks seem to conk out whenever we go "let's organize a chat to talk about it", then it never happens and all the talks stop.

I had a dream last night that I was in LA. Got lost too. LOL

Doesn't matter WHERE in the USA it is...I don't think I could afford to go unless it was MAYBE later in the summer. Late August. I'd have to bring the kids with me too. But without some other big event with which to gather round (face it, we'd be bored in a week if we had nothing to do! No matter how much we love each other. heehee) If not LA, it would have to be someplace that has things to do. To make it worthwhile of the life-savings we'd be spending. :-) A Vacation, if you will!

Just thought I'd throw in that L.A. is a natural choice for us....it's the opposite coast, there's lots to see and do, Benny's there, Kris's there, that elusive DV is there, and I have friends there too. My Canadian half-cent on the subject.

Hmmm... never realized I was elusive.. me? What's with the LA weather? Until now I can't seem to figure it out what people abhor with the weather here.. It's cold in the East Coast.. Burning like an oven in Arizona.. but what's with the LA weather aside from being crazy? I do fathom the fog very well and I understand your concern..
Going back to business.. I think it was agreed before that it's gonna be LA.. (YOHOOO!!! MAURINE!! HELP ME HERE!!) Sher's right, aside from the theme parks here, there are really nice places to see..and those places ain't that far from the "place" where DA's been drooling to go for years.. And I second the motion with Mark.. make it Autumn please cuz I'm going to New Jersey/New York for the whole summer.

Till Whenever,
THE ELUSIVE Dean Valley
(hmm..kinda like the sound of it in a way..)

Hey y'all...what about CANADA! ;-) It's not hot, we don't have smog....well...we don't have much of ANYTHING but wheat fields and grasshoppers. hehehe But y'all are more than welcome to come up here.

Hi everyone! The gathering - great topic!

I've just been talking about it with Kati and Rick...

I hope very much that it could be any time in August, because that should be the only time I can go this year.

As for the place... since Rick and I were talking about getting together anyway, I would suggest Connecticut. What would you say? I think there are plenty of things to do and see, including NYC... It seems that Dean Valley would be around there, too, at that time in summer, and it's also near to Mark's family...? Well, I don't know, just my 2 cents. Let me know, what you think!

I'd also like to invite you all to Germany, but I doubt that would get a majority of votes... hehehe

hehehe I doubt I could afford to go anywhere outside of Canada, unless by some miracle the US dollar plummets to par with Canada.

Miracle? If the US dollar plummets like that, the entire world will be in an economic crisis...

Oh heck no. Just means that for once, the US wouldn't be God. And with Bush at the helm, it wouldn't surprise me if it did. hehehe

Tina (Trina)

what is the Canadian - US Dollar exchange rate?

Kati (K63jena)

Hello!

I find the suggestion of Tina super. Rick over an attendance of us certainly to be pleased and NY is also not so far away. It would be beautiful, if we could meet in Connuticat.

Greetings from Germany

Kati

Tina...right now, the US dollar is worth $1.60 up here. So, for me, everything in the US costs about 50% more than what the price says.

For what it's worth, people.....a lot of us have "disappeared" or have gone into lurk mode. Only now have I seen some familiar names return here. heehee If we wanna have a gathering, we gotta make sure everyone is still "here" and keeping The 'Holics alive! :-) All you lurkers, speak up!!! hehehe

I'm around - just busy at work. Do you really think Katie and Tina would suggest my area without me involved?

LOL - it would be funny now that I think about it...Rick btw next week you are having guests....

Tina (Trina)
02-13-2002, 02:53 AM
oh... it could be tougher... Rick btw tomorrow we are coming... ;-)

You're right, Sheri, I'm sorry I haven't been around recently, I've been busy, too.

Mark mentioned the holics mailing list... I'm not even sure I am still on... I was on with my centropolis.org address. What do I have to do to get on with my new email address?

As for the currency... I think that is kind of similar to how the Euro stands to the US Dollar... hehe, we shouldn't worry too much about that, because a strong currency actually is mostly good for psychological reasons and for tourists... in fact a weaker currency is good for your exports... But, of course, the tourists issue is the one that concerns us most in the moment.

I voted for LA last time. I still vote for LA. But I wouldn't be opposed to CT or Canada for that matter.

I vote LA and a mass trip to Disneyland! I don't have my cuz anymore to go on our bi-annual ventures. Anyone for Disneyland this March?

Kati, Rick and Dean Valley it sure is good to see you guys around.

I know I'm not a part of the mailing list any longer. Not since the Cent-Mail left us.

What about Mexico? Very inexpensive. Cabo San Lucas? The Melia Los Cabos? Jet skis, para-sailing. Las Vegas is also inexpensive to stay at. We could probably have an entire FLOOR of the Union Plaza just for us. $39 a night for a huge room with two queen size beds. We could wander the Fremont Street Experience and maybe get lucky to find the TV people doing some filming. If we did this in March ya'll might get to see my fave band play at Fitzgerald's... WHAAAAhooooo!

me

Well Mey-he-co would be cool, after everyone stops puking from seeing me on the beach of course. Wonder what that would cost?
If I start going "back" to college, I'm out for anything after September.

Sheri Gordon (Sheri)
02-13-2002, 02:18 PM
Not as scary as what *I* would look like on the beach. ;-) Can I opt for a ravers night out? LOL

I found out they make leather pants in my size...

Just pondering the aftermath, the smell of beef as I walk down the street, the mass exodus to Burger King for hundreds of people...

I don't see why not. They were trying to keep the "show must go on" going since about a week after 9/11.

Sheri Gordon (Sheri)

Not to sound callous or anything, but what's the big attraction about seeing a lump of rubble? I mean, it was just a building. People died there. I don't see the attraction of it. I'd rather remember it was it was, and not have that vivid in -your-face experience of such a horrible place. :-\

Don't hate me cause I'm beeyootiful (F_U_N_G_U_S)
02-15-2002, 05:52 PM
I think the idea is NOT to go see the pile of rubble (ala driving by a car accident), but to say a prayer and/or place a momento there in memoriam of the people who did die.

Sheri Gordon (Sheri)

Well, not fer nuttin, but I can do (and have done) that from here just as well.
