What I've seen so far I've really enjoyed. Especially the Downhill. What an absolUTEly exhillarating feeling! Saw a movie long ago called Downhill Racer - Redford film - That movie is to skiers what On Any Sunday is to bike riders.

I'm still laughing! This morning during the homily Fr. Dominic told us that something woke him up at 2am so he got up to watch some of the Olympics. Hocky was on. Women's teams. Canadians vs Americans. The Canadians won! He says, "Just goes to show - Canadian women are better than American women."

Cheers Sheri! heeehehehe!
Lisa

If judges were competing for medals of their own, and an athlete was doing the "judging", do you think the athlete would consider a judge's merit for trustworthiness and honesty, or do you think they'd just give the medal to the judge who whined the longest for it, call it a day and get home in time for dinner? I don't know. Just a thought. It has nothing to do with the hockey game, I promise.

Hey Tim,

Funny you should mention it. I was just reading an article yesterday about the downward spiral of integrity in this country. A teacher (in Kentucky?) quit her job. She discovered a bunch of her students had pilfered their papers from the internet so she flunked them. Their parents got all miffed about it, invaded a board meeting and the school board then they tried to make her pass the cheating students. So she quit.

Can you imagine? Patting cheaters on the back like that? WAY to teach the kids to do the right thing. UGH

Honest judges should get the GOLD! ;)
Lisa

We have obviously failed in your mission. Therefore, we will be changing our affiliation to "Canadians for More Snow".

Tell Me about it.. the farmers are predicting a MEGA loss this year.. I just got laid off from the farmers union cause they can't afford to pay me in the upcoming months.
they lost over 16% of the farmers in the PROVINCE last year.. and there have been many more who are cutting their losses and not even gonna attempt to plant this year because of the dry conditions..
and MILD... I have had my winter coat in the car out of HABIT.. but have not been wearing it.. and here February is the COLDEST month in the year..
we average -40 for atleast 2 weeks (-40C = -40F)(day time highs)
but lately our day time highs are above 0C

MANY people are getting scared.. they are predicting minimum 25% of the farmers we have left are going to give up on farming before the year is out.

Such is the life of those on the prairies..
(Sheri is just Whyning cause she can't get the Skidoo out ... not good with your Flu dear..
Feel better soon Sheri

Well, they're saying El Nino is back again, and we're supposed to have a very rainy, wet winter this year (tail end of the year) so we'll see what heads up north...

Farmer's Almanac is calling for a dry hot summer for us here, Starr. And me, snowmobiling? HECK NO! Last time I climbed on that thing, I got ditched face first into the snow because Chris gunned the throttle before I was ready. Then the time before that, I went through the garage door....

umm....NO.

Me and Snowmobiles...BAD idea. ;-P

I'm actually looking to the fact that I'm down to two bales of grass hay, and four bales of semi-mouldy Alfalfa hay (which has to be cut with grass hay to make it palatable for horses. Too high of protein when served straight up) It was hard enough finding THOSE bales of hay. Don't even wanna dream of how hard it will be to find hay for the coming winter. Feeding my mini-horse may not be expensive, but it will be if I have to drive to Manitoba to buy hay. ;-)

Fungus, you wanna put them big ol' tentacles of yers to good use this year, tilt the province of Manitoba up a bit, so all their floodwaters run off into Saskatchewan. ;)

Put a thatch roof on yer barn for lean times ;-) Interesting goosie, I know a couple of judges I'd just love to give something to, but it damn sure wouldn't be a medal. (unless it was the size of that (curling stone?)
Has anyone noticed the moving spiral or sphere in the background at the awards area? Uses a kinetic movement- Designed by C. Hoberman, a toy inventor amongst others. The sphere utilizes over 16 thous. lbs. aluminum and creates quite a dramatic backdrop. Thanks!
My young one has the toy sphere which he enjoyed immensely Christmas morn. It is cool. remind me to put a funny pic up.

...We interrupt this weather discussion to bring you more on the topic at hand:

Back to the Olympics... I'm glad they're over. I've never seen such a comedy in my life. I heard the french judge has recanted her recantment of the original recantment of the "Devil Made Me Do It" scenario. Sheesh.

...We now return you to your regularly scheduled ramblings. Thank you.
;D

Russia Threatens To Pull Out of Olympics

An angry Russian Olympic delegation tonight threatened to pull its entire team out of the Winter Games, charging that "malicious and insulting" judging and unfair drug-testing were conspiring to keep Russian athletes away from the medals podium.

At a freewheeling news conference, a dais full of shouting Russian officials took turns denouncing the Olympic judges and insisting that their country's athletes were being robbed because of backroom deals to favor other nations. If their complaints were not addressed -- and soon -- the Russians warned, their team might even forgo competing at the 2004 Summer Games in Athens, a return to the Cold War era's legacy of boycotts.

The Russian delegation, composed of its highest sporting officials, was particularly incensed over penalties called by referees against its men's hockey team; by lingering anger over the decision to award Canadian pairs figure skaters David Pelletier and Jamie Sale duplicate gold medals; and by the decision today to block a nine-time Olympic medal winner from competing in a cross-country relay because of a failed hemoglobin test.

Immediately after the Russians threatened to depart the Winter Games, the South Korean delegation held its own news conference to announce its protests,Iand a possible lawsuit in U.S. federal court,Eto overturn a decision by Olympic judges to disqualify its short-track speedskater Kim Dong Sung, whose gold medal was yanked away and given to American skater Apolo Anton Ohno on Wednesday night. The Korean was disqualified for allegedly cutting off Ohno. The South Korean delegation threatened to pull out of the Closing Ceremonies. The International Skating Union quickly ruled that there was no provision in the Olympic rules for overturning a judgment call, and so the Korean's protest was denied.

Also, keep in mind that the FBI has on record, over 16 THOUSAND threatening emails from South Korea against Ono after the first race.
