*sigh*

The Gypsy has returneth on her never-ending quest for a reliable webhost. Yet again (what's this, the 5th or 6th time?), I was notified by my current webhost that I would have to find somewhere else to go. My current guy is going out of business at the end of April. So, the future of www.john-corbett.com is hanging on whether I can find another reasonably-priced webhost to serve pages from.

Anybody got a gun? Please put me out of my misery now. I can't stand this kind of stress!!

*major sigh!!!*

LOL

Well, what about going back to serving it up on your machine? You could have a forwarding DNS through something like Dotster.com I have a server running on my machine now, but I don't think I could handle your traffic. ;-)

Not with the traffic that Pat gets. A homebased server is only really good if you get at most a few hits an hour...

Exactly. It may not be the norm, but this past January, I had over 30,000 *unique* visitors to the site, and on one particular day, I had 2193! I've currently been averaging between 450-700 visitors a day. Eeeek! My home machine would explode with that kind of use LOL. And most folks would get "server is busy" errors anyway. Unfortunately, I can't do it from home anymore.

But Fungus forwarded me a suggestion, which I will investigate later this evening. My problem is, while I don't need any bells or whistles, I do need space - which comes at a premium. The "professional" web hosts out there automatically assume if you need 250 megs of space, then you need 100+ pop accounts, unlimited bandwidth, secure shopping carts, etc. etc. Hellooooo? It's JUST a fan site. LOL But they don't care. It comes with the package, ya know?

I think my goose is cooked at this point. *sigh*

I think it's time to put in a good word to ol' Johnny boy. And all his projects who want you to promote them on their website. Ya've put in so much hard work and time and money into it...think it's time they kicked ya some back now. Who was it that posted the link to the article about fansites being funded by the bigwigs because they're realizing now just how VALUABLE of a promotional vehicle they are.

*Hic*

Well, don't just stand there girl. You've got the power of Da Lete. Whatcha waitin' for? ;o)

Fungus-o-mugus, I sent a lengthy e-mail to the folks you suggested and cc'd you on it. I know I'm desperate, and beggars can't be choosers, but how's their up time? I stress out a LOT when servers go down. (Just ask Eric and Andrew. LOL) If I can get the same deal with them that I had with my current webhost, I will be a very happy camper! Are they nice people? Spill dahlin'. I gots ta know. ;o)

Pat

I'm not sure what your budget is, but I've had experience with Hostway.com and Hostyoursite.com. In terms of support, they've been good. I wouldn't advise a paid Hypermart account though, bad support and a total site deletion over a payment mixup.

Thanks Wayne. Right now, I'm exploring an option that Fungus suggested. It looks good, and they're going to match my current host's prices - which aint too shabby considering all the disc space I need. I'll keep everybody posted. :o)

Someone say Goose?

Pat, I sent an e-mail to my brother. He knows a thing or two, and a person or two.

Hopefully your option will work out. If not, maybe Eron will have an idea.

Hugs!
