...before it fades into box office oblivion! Sans maybe Ebert and Roper, professional critics aren't liking it, but it's been a while since *I* had this much fun at a movie. This one has "cult film" written ALL over it!

Lets see... how to describe? Okay, um... Ed Wood meets John Woo.

Not doing it for ya, huh?

Okay, well uh... It's a similar story to FAHRENHEIT 451 but with the action and gunplay of THE MATRIX. It's sprinkled with equal parts of bleak visions of the future from films like GATTACA, 1984, BRAVE NEW WORLD, and THX 1138! OH, and the city from METROPOLIS - complete with zeppelins flying over a towered skyline. Yup! Remember Centropolis' logo? I nearly fell off my chair. Bravo! Now THAT's "homage!"

Still not doing it for ya?
Hmmm... tough crowd

Okay, how 'bout the trailer?
Here ya go!

[I told you it was like The Matrix. LOL]

Alrighty then. Well? What are you people still doing sitting in your chairs?

GO! NOW! Before it's too late and y'all have turned into pumkins! ;o)

Pity i can't see the trailer. It's in apple and I've just got a PC. Don't tell me I'm extremely dumb when it comes to computers...! (I already know that)

Mike, the trailer is in QuickTime. Yes, Apple developed that format (I think), but just about everybody, even us PC junkies, are able to run it. You just may need to download the player. It's not a bad proggie to have on your puter either, so I recommend having it. Lots of trailers use either QuickTime or RealPlayer so you'll use it once you have it. ;o) I *think* Yahoo's trailer is RP, but it's finicky. Give it a shot here.

Starr, I don't think the film has made it up to Canada yet. It was only released in like 20 markets (about 300 screens) because the distributor, Dimension Films, is a putz! LOL But here's a short list of some cities where it is playing. Good luck to everybody in finding this movie; it's a hoot.

I've gotten a few good eps of NX. Since I don't have a screen capturing device, makes my life easier. heheheh

Unfortunately the trailer tells me nothing about the film. The supers aren't really helping.

Critic-wise, i usually go by the grade Mike le Salle of the San Francisco Chronicle gives films, since he's always completely wrong. He gives this a D. (He gave ELF a G, proving just how wrong he can be). Let's hope the publicity Co is just really new at doing trailers.

Oh, honestly Mike, you can't go by what the critics had to say about this film. Like ELF, you don't go to see it if you want logic or reality. Just about every critic out there missed the point of the film. It's POPCORN! Not Shakespeare! It's just a fun movie. You'll laugh at the audacious gun fights - not because they're stupid or silly... well, they ARE stupid and silly LOL, but they're just a fun watch. Trust me on this one. :o)

If you want to know the whole plot, beginning, middle, ending - the whole darn enchilada, go here:
http://www.themoviespoiler.com/Spoilers/equilibrium.html

But I WARN YOU! That *is* EVERYTHING. Don't click on that link if you don't want to know that the butler did it. (I'm kidding, buy you know what I mean!) I'm a spoiler nut. Knowing the ending to a movie doesn't ruin it for me. In fact, it's just the opposite with me - makes me want to see the film even more! But I'm probably in the minority on that.

Sorry Pat, but this movie (just going by the trailer) has a whole "been there done that" cliche-edness to it. It's such an overused plot (the only one more overused is the "ex-con gets pulled back into the 'biz' against his will" thing).

Fair enough, Fungus. I didn't see the film for its originality though. It's just a fun ride with lots of eye candy. Regardless, it will be completely out of theaters within the next two weeks, so it's not a big deal. :o) I'm looking forward to the DVD at this point. LOL

When ya come right down to it, Fungus, TONS of movies have been done to death. But it's someone else's take on it that makes them worth watching.

Not anymore. One of the reasons I, and many others have staved off TV is poor, tired, cliche writing. I used to see about 6+ movies a year. Even when I had a steady job, I cut down to 1 or 2 every TWO years, for the same reason. Even "someone elses take" on them isn't worth watching anymore. There's no new twists. If someone made a shark attack movie today (and I mean a theatrical one, not like those crappy "Shark Attack" films which are rip offs of Deep Blue Sea on USA network), it would be half (if not more) identical to Jaws. Not in "homage", just in lack of originality and creativity.
Mike (Mike)

I think if they did a homage to Jaws, they'd have to make sure the shark or everything else broke down. (and that was the fun bit)

Pat, what I mean is that since the SF Chronical critic is always wrong, it must be a good movie.

Mike, that could be said for most critics.

I feel more comfortable with those that are consistantly wrong.

If you look at the ones that are sometimes wrong, you don't know what your in for (and i prefer a movie to do that for me instead)

My question is:

why are you bothering to take into consideration what a critic says when you decide what movie to see? If you think you'll want to see it, then do it!

I've never taken a any critics into account when I see a movie, and since Total Recall in 1990, I've only been disappointed three times (Dick Tracy, Event Horizon, and technically Analyze That, but then we only went to see it because we had no heat/power and needed someplace warm and entertaining to go!)

I watched Event Horizon, and I actually didn't think it was that bad.

I liked Event Horizon too.

Hey....I fianlly saw Moon44 on Starz Action Channel.

Pretty good, how old/young was Dean in that movie??

Wasn't he like, 12 in Moon 44? ;Þ

As for Event Horizon, in a nutshell:
It wasn't sure if it wanted to be horror, or scifi, and failed miserably on both ends. Also, there was that extraneous gore factor (which is one reason why if failed).

Really? No more so than ALIEN, I felt.

I thought it to be more Fantasy/Sci-Fi mix. (which some fantasy CAN be horror) The thought of sending a ship through a black hole in wormhole time thingy (Pat knows the technical terms, I am sure) and wondering just WHERE exactly it had been to get there. This was one person's idea on where it could have been. I found it interesting.
