Went out with some artist friends of mine on Sunday and took a whole whack load of photos on a horse tour we did. Got emailed this scan today, of me with Friesian stallion Nanning. Quite a horse! Such presence.

Why would I want to clutter such a beautiful face with manmade contraptions? ;-) I woulda just hopped onto his back, grabbed a handful of mane and galloped off into the sunset. hehehe

Now in TECHNOCOLOR! (F_U_N_G_U_S)

Hey Sheri,

I watched another fave flick last night. One I don't think I've seen in a billion years. Gosh, I think my parents were still married last time I saw this movie.

Electric Horseman.

Love that film. My favorite scene is where Sonny is trapped, saddles up Rising Star and says to him: Alright Junkie, the swellings gone down, you ain't wheezin no more and By Golly I've seen you run!

Whoooo hoooo! off they go!

Wonder if that's on DVD yet... Made me miss Bo a lot. My ol Boo Boo Barnes with his broken tail. Loved to swim but hated to get his feet wet. Needed air traffic control for a puddle in the road. Hated motorcycles. Loved beer. Bo got into our swimming pool once. I thought Dad was going to kill me. "Lisa Marie! Get your damn horse OUT of my pool!" But after about 5 minutes he couldn't stop laughing.

Bo was a victim of abuse. Suffered for years. He hated men because they were always his abusers. The man who gave him to me used to snub him to a tree and beat him with a 2 by 4 to get a saddle on him. Told all us kids that Bo was mean and we shouldn't go near him. Bo was rolling in the dirt, scratching his back once, and got his legs all tangled up in some loose barb wire when he tried to get up. I saw he was stuck and went to help. After that, mean ol Bo was my buddy. Terry gave him to me about two weeks later. I only had him for 2 all-too-short years. but by the end of his life my dad could saddle him up and go for a ride.

He'd misbehave dredfully at times I went away for a week or so. I hit him once with the end of his lead rope when he was throwing a tantrum after one of my trips. He stood stock still and a tear rolled down his cheek. I never hit him again.

He was old. Most of the time he'd rub his mane all off just for the joy of scratching. You could trust that horse. I never understood how anyone could brutalize him. Once, I was up to feed him and a teensy field mouse fell out of his alfalfa. I didn't want Bo to step on him so I dove for the mouse. Again Bo stood stock still while I ran in and out of his legs trying to catch the mouse. (Did I mention he was 16.2 hands and all Leg?) Bo looked upside down at me from between his front legs with this "What the HELL are you doing?" expression but he never moved. Never kicked.

Once, Christmas Day, my friend Tasha, her little Welsh pony Peanut, Bo and I were out for a run before the family festivities. We were at a dead run on a dirt road when this Honda Coupe came around a hair pin turn. Thank GOD it was on the wrong side of the road! Bo could have shouldered Peanut out of the way and avoided the car but there was a cliff along the side of the road. He gathered himself up and jumped over the car. He came down at such an angle I slid all the way to his ears. Bo tossed me back so hard I thought my spine would split when it hit his. (he was SO boney from years of not being fed well.) The driver was TOTALLY freaked. HUGE old man got out of the car to see if we were ok but had to dive back in because, being a man, Bo bared his teeth and ran at him. When we got home we discovered Bo's right white stocking had blue Honda paint on it. His leg had hit the hood.

I could tell Bo stories til the end of days. But I think I'd put everyone to sleep except Will and Sher.

Put me in a cage with a starved carnivore and in an hour we'll be kickin' back havin' a cold one, hollerin' for the waiter to bring us menus.
"Steak! Meduim rare for me. The same for my friend, Extra rare. And two more Heinekens!"

Hebivores...... I don't get along with.

heheh Cute story, Goosie!

Actually, we're looking into getting some miniatures for my yard. I have a big enough place, and I just GOTTA have a horse sometime in my life. Even if it is a mini-horse, it's still a horse. The neighbors both said "no problem" about us having some ("At least they won't BARK!" (my dogs are terrible barkers, so they will likely be going back to my cousin's place))...just gotta get it past the town office and see what they say. Technically, miniatures aren't livestock. They're pets. Hopefully they agree. Wish me luck!

I don't know about the rules in Canada, but that didn't wash for my mom. She got a pot belly pig. Lives right next door to Bay Meadows Race Track but not zoned for livestock. She had to give Wilma up. PLUS she didn't know there's a 100 pound difference between pot belly and mini pot belly! heehee!!

I've seen some out and out GORGEOUS minis Sher! My fave was this tiny dapple mare with silver wavy mane and tail and hooves so pale they looked pink. I think there's even a rescue center where you can get abused ones for a small fee. I'll check if I can find a source for you. That would be SO COOL!

As for you *A* Man - Bo used to love the hot dogs from Robert's Store in Woodside. Is that good enough for ya? Yeah, I'd stop for lunch and get a bagel dog then we'd head for the pond on Fox Hollow. He'd wade into the pool and we'd eat. He'd eat the middle. I'd eat the outside - with MUSTARD!!

http://www.adoptahorse.blm.gov/bid-t.htm

Adopt a Mustang... Gosh, I've wanted to do that since I was 8 years old. Good reason to relocate to Oklahoma. I may have to talk to Uncle Dewayne about this...

Scroll all the way to the bottom Sher. My fave on the page isn't even a horse. He's a burro. Number 1223. I also like the fuzzy burro number 4616.
Fave horses are 9983 and 9893. I also like 107 at the top then 388, 382 and 3003. My dream would be a buckskin.

Willie Nelson - a Mustang we have right here affectionately known as "willie". She's always been alpha mare. When my Nova was just 2, he decided to jump over a 4'6" stall door, then hopped another fence to pay her a visit in the pasture. She promptly put him in his place, then he proceded to graze beside her. I grabbed a halter, ran up, put it on him and brought him back. It was at that point I knew I had a special horse! Most stallions I've known wouldn't have taken no for an answer.

Loved your story electric goose! Sher, good luck on your mini. There are several mini farms around here. They show them quite extensively and most I've talked to have a blast. Matter of fact, had a visitor last weekend who has a mini, and they have bonded quite well. More juicy news later... A - I really liked the Boss!

Oh dear! Another tidbit from Electric Horseman. Willie Nelson is in it. Did much of the sound track. Sad to know I can probably still sing then entire Red Headed Stranger album as well as most of Willie's songs from EH. Don't ask me to though because I can't carry a tune to save my life! LOL

I gotta run
to keep from hidin
I'm bound
to keep on ridin
and I got one more
silver dollar
and I ain't gonna let em catch me, Lord
I ain't gonna let em catch me
Midnight Rider
