Hey gang,

I rescued a turtle last week. She was in pretty bad shape. Someone tossed her away into the salt water lagoon and she's a fresh water turtle. The poor thing is covered in jelly fish stings that turned into bright red raspberries on her forest green skin. She's doing much better now. Eating well She has a nice big home in a Rubber Maid bin on my back porch. As Cheryl said "The turtle who hit the lotto." With the help of some internet Turtle Whiz Kids I've determined that she is an Eastern River Cooter. She's about 6 inches long. She's very tame and likes to sit in my lap and have her head rubbed. She never tries to run away. Just sits and looks at me. Blink, Blink, Blink...

This is what she looks like:
http://www.allturtles.com/other_turtles/eastern_cooter.htm

My trouble is, I can't think of a name for her.

Yertle, Myrtle, Lily, Jodi, Evinrude, Dinah and Oppie have all been suggested and so far rejected.

Ideas?

Yeah *A*! :]

btw, Goosey, how can you TELL she hasn't tried to run away? They're dang slow ya know :Þ

Oh, btw, if you don't at least seriously consider the name "Gamera", I'm going to scowl hard in your direction...

Oh no, not an aquatic turtle. The folks I've been talking to say they run really fast. Desert tortoises are the slow ones. They don't run at all.

BOB?? no way.

Gamera is nice.
Someone else just suggested Tule (too lee) the little reed things in swamp water - which would be her natural habitat.

What's wrong with Bob?

I second the Gamera suggestion.

LOL@Auric!

Hey, get another turtle and it'll be duck, duck Goose! :]

How about Speedy?
or Farfel?
or Sassafras?
or Gungadin?
or Shelby (no groans allowed)?
or Zerk?
or Shasta?
or Mello Yello for that matter...
or Juan?
or Moriority?
or Senor Estanky?
or you can stick your mouth in a bowl of water, and blow air bubbles, and call it the first sound you hear...

These are all just suggestions however... :]

I used to have a puppet named Farfel. Interesting...

She can't be Senior Estanky because she's a seniorita.

I got Dinosaur on the Pay Per View this weekend hoping to come up with a good name for her. That was the most depressing movie I've ever seen. Who wants to make a film about death, mass destruction and the left behind - FOR CHILDREN! What were they thinking???

Petrie from Land Before Time is cute, but she doesn't seem to like that at all. I think she's starting to believe her name is "Yoshi NO!"

I'm thinking about Minako. I used to know this adorable woman named Minako. She taught traditional Japanese dance for women. She was so good her nick name in Japan was Tsunami. It's a pretty name. And she's sort of sweet like Minako.

I think I'll call her TaioRou which means gentle gaze.

Shetan gets serious points for making me laugh the most!

That sounds like a very nice name! What language is that now? ;-)

Gentle Gaze fits a turtle. Funny thing, there was a write-up in the paper just recently with photos about a turtle assembly (with races and all) at Cypress Gardens. The Patriot was mentioned again explaining where the "chapel ruins" came from. Now who put that there? It certainly makes a nice touch, though.

HA! Don't make me come over there and give you a wedgie! TiaoRou is Chinese. Some Japanese folks also asked if they could eat her. LOL!!! All in good humor...

The Egg vs. The Fungus

Now that would be interesting viewing

I dunno. Eggs and fungi can be a stinky combination!

I may have been to hasty to name my little green friend. I think I should call her Miss Piggy. Yesterday I sat on the back porch with an ice coffee and her turtle kibble. I tossed a few in. The cats like the turtle kibble since it's mostly fish. So I gave them each some. Then I notice TiaoRou is standing in her tank looking at me. Blink, Blink.. So I toss in a few more kibble. She grabs it all like a Hungry Hippo game. This went on for a quarter cup worth of kibble. YIKES!!

If the little turtlette is an Eastern River Cooter, isn't she quite far from home? Maybe after you nurse her (him?) back to health you could find a nice swamp and let it swim. That is, unless there's an attachment developing.
