O Auric, would you like to know what I thought after I read the first two lines of your mail and saw the picture? I thought you mean the fish!
A fish who's dying at the age of 42...I'm sorry.

Andrea

LOL! Andrea, "42" was the answer to the great question in HGTTG. Adams died at 49.

PS: I had a few of those fish - they're called Yellow Tangs.

LOL! Sorry... that was unintentional. :-]

What would Doug think if he knew that now he's mixed up with his own creation? ;)

It's a babelfish, appearing in H2G2 (German title: Per Anhalter durch die Galaxis). It's a little yellow alien fish that when it's put into one's ear translates any language into your own.

H2G2 is a "bible" for computer geeks and sci-fi enthusiasts.

Sorry, that gives this thread a rather... funny touch. :-]

*sniff*

I'm sure, wherever he is now he's got a towel with him.

*doublesniff*

Regarding this thread having a funny side to it, I'm sure Adams wouldn't have had it any other way. :o)

Too true Pat. But alas, I must make the comment that if someone lives as cynically as he did, sooner or later it's gonna catch up with ya. Still, the man was a heck of a writer. He will be missed.

One of the saddest things is, they are in the midst of making a Hollywood motion picture about Hitchhiker's Guide, and he's been fighting tooth and nail to keep it true to the vision of the book. Now, who's going to fight for him? I almost shudder to think of what the movie will turn out like.

A moment of silence to remember the man who's inspired my writing style, not to mention who brought the science term "eddies" into public awareness, and let's continue that moment of silence for his survivors (wife and kids), as they must be going thru hell right now...
