Stefan,

It already was shown on German TV, but you can buy the DVD there. It's under the title THE QUEST. Good luck. I hope you enjoy it.

-Dean Devlin

oh... The Quest... oops... it's been on DVD since May 30... D'oh!... that's almost half a year now... and no news about it on CENTROPOHOLICS.com... Holy Moley! Who's running that site again??

Yes, it seems to have been shown on RTL, probably some time between January and May this year. :]

*surfing to Amazon.de*

Thanks for the hint, Dean!

Does anyone know why titles are changed rather than simply translated when films appear in Europe? I often have trouble talking with my friends across the Atlantic about current movies - for exactly this reason.

Just curious.

I know what you mean Kefla, but I don't know why they change either. And it often doesn't make any sense at all.

They often use a different English main title for US films here, and then add some stupid long German "explanation" behind it.

It's usually up to the local distributor in that territory. For some reason, the German distributor decided that THE QUEST works better in Germany than THE LIBRARIAN. I agree, I wish they'd all just use the same title, but on the other hand, the local distrubtor usually knows their audience better than we can here in the U.S. so we have to trust their judgement.

-Dean Devlin

The Librarian: Quest for the Spear
turned into
The Quest - Jagd nach dem Speer des Schicksals
(translated: The Quest - Quest for the Spear of Destiny)

So far, so good.

But it remains to be seen what they will do with the title of The Librarian 2...
Or will it be a Quest again?

That'll be what the sink would look like if they filled it up with soap and water then left it to sit a few days. hehehehe

Stefan (Auric)

hehe... well, the ugly has been censored.

I've seen The Librarian twice now, both the English and German version, and I enjoyed them both.
(BTW: The bald headed bad guy's German dubbing voice is the same as Jean-Claude van Damme's... hehe)

My favorite scene would be Pandora's Box. Bob Newhart is hilarious!

In some scenes, Noah Wyle felt a bit like going over the top in the way he played Flynn, but else the comedy was right and worked very well. The TV-out-of-desktop scene for example... or the Mayan riddle door... great! ;)
I think the music was responsible for the sometimes exaggerated comedy feel. hmm...

I knew I had seen the head monk before... just checked it with IMDb... he was the tanker skipper in Godzilla! :D

And there were other familiar names...
Kirk Petruccelli's cameo as the airplane's pilot (he did the production design on this show, The Patriot and The Thirteenth Floor), former Centropolis Effects visual effects executive producer Mark Franco played the Air Marshall (and was also the visual effects producer), and of course Lisa Brenner.

I also liked Olympia Dukakis very much. Oh, and Dean, do you happen to have Kelly Hu's phone number? :o)

JAG, you were absolutely right in your review about me probably liking the animated EE logo... it was maybe just a little bit too short. ;)

I agree with JAG's review. I found some of the effects were too visible, you know, like the whole bridge scene, where you could almost feel the bluescreen behind the actors, or the helicopters over the Himalaya, that didn't look too convincing.

But there were other scenes, that were really magical. I generally liked the glow effect on the images. And the library itself was beautifully done!

The sound was good too. The elevator door in the library reminded me a bit of Star Trek. ;)

Overall an enjoyable film! I'm looking forward to part 2.
