This is more for Mr. D really, but very specific to this movie:

What year did ID4 come out?

Here's why I ask;
I keep seeing it came out in 1996, but every fiber of my being says "1994". See, I first read the news in TV Guide in 1994 that Godzilla (the rights thereto) had been picked up by Tristar. It wasn't until a couple of years later that they finally got Centropolis signed on to work with it. However, I'm almost certain that that news came AFTER ID4 came out (come and gone, actually), and since ID4 opened up July 4th, and Centro wasn't asked to do Godzilla until after ID4 was a proven hit, and considering how they turned it down several times, it just doesn't seem feasible to me that the timetable for all those events could have occured with ID4 opening in 1996...

Sorry about the run-on sentence.

Stargate came out in 1994 and Independence Day came out in the summer of 1996.

I hope that helps,

-Dean Devlin

D'oh! Guess it's time I stopped banging my head on the wall... Or maybe I need to bang it harder...

Thanks Mr. D.

Hmmm. Perhaps this is the place to ask, and if not, my apologies.

Is the original episode of the series "Hard Copy" available on disk or tape? I thought that was a great series, and the character of David Del Valle was played so well that I've followed Dean Devlin's career ever since. But I never saw the first episode of Hard Copy, and have looked for it for over 20 years now!

Any help is appreciated!

---Russ

The "To the filmmakers" section would probably be more appropriate for this question, but I'll be honest, I personally have never heard of this show.

Well, you are not alone - but you are missing a great treat in life. It was a mid-season replacement on CBS in ... 1987? Mr. Devlin played a talented young newspaper reporter covering the crime side beat in a major metropolitan area. He's good, but he doesn't know the ropes, so he ends up slamming into the wall at 90 miles an hour sometimes. Sometimes he crashes and burns, but sometimes, the wall gives way.

The older, wiser version of Del Valle is Andy Omart, who likes the kid and respects his talent - but won't tell him that. He's played by Michael Murphy ("Tanner '88). Wendy Crewson ("Air Force 1") plays a wire services reporter with great instincts and skills of her own. These three work out of the Crimeside news department in the City Police station, scambling to cover the breaking stories and beat the others while still maintaining a professional bond. Their differing perspectives often provide color for the stories. This was at the time when TV was just beginning to embrace the idea of ongoing storylines from week to week.

It only ran 11 episodes but it was a damn good series. I'm still looking for the pilot show.
